What we're looking for

You have a VMBO Kader/GL or TL diploma, an MBO Level 2 diploma, a HAVO diploma, or a transition certificate from HAVO 3 to 4
You are interested in everything related to technology

You are curious and eager to learn new things
You enjoy working together with others in a team environment
You live in the Netherlands and possess a valid residence permit that allows you to work and study
You speak the Dutch language sufficiently, both orally and in writing. Lessons at school are given in Dutch and good communication is also important on the work floor
You register yourself at an MBO or HBO school. VDL does not arrange this, but we are happy to think along with you and can advise you on suitable courses and schools

The role

For the start of the new school year in August/September 2026, we are looking for BBL apprentices for the position of all-round production technology welding employee level 3. There are various welding techniques you can learn at VDL, such as MIG, MAG, and TIG welding. You begin with technical knowledge as a basic welder at level 2 and progress through the training to all-round welder at level 3. The working pace is higher and you work more independently. As a basic welder, you create products that meet certain quality requirements. You follow the welding method description precisely. You have an executing role and initially support the all-round welder. As you gain more experience and learn more at school and at work, you work your way up to all-round welder. At school, you will get to know the construction machines and the new processing techniques. You learn how to describe the making of a workpiece and why you apply certain techniques and methods. You are responsible for the quality of your own work and the guidance of less experienced colleagues. Therefore, you work accurately yourself and also pay close attention to errors and deviations by others.

The strength of VDL

During your BBL training at VDL, you will be guided by a skilled practical supervisor. You will work 4 days per week at the VDL company and go to school 1 day per week. You will arrange the registration for the BBL training yourself, of course with our help. After completing your training, we offer you the opportunity to continue your studies at one of the VDL companies or to enter permanent employment.
