At HBM Machines, we serve more than a million visitors per month across seven countries, running on Google Cloud and Cloudflare. Our Platform Team builds the platform and the developer tooling that all development teams work on. We are looking for a Platform Engineer to further advance our landscape, with security as the focal point where we would most like to gain depth.
As a Platform Engineer, you will work across the full breadth of our infrastructure: the GCP and Cloudflare environments, the infra monorepo in Terraform, and the developer tooling our teams build on daily, including GitHub Enterprise, Grafana, Sentry, and our AI platform. Additionally, you will specialize in one of our two areas: security & governance or observability & monitoring. More internal capacity & depth in security is one of the reasons for this expansion, so that is our primary interest.
You will join a small platform team currently under construction. You will work together with one internal colleague and our external infrastructure partner, who supplements capacity where needed and brings expertise to the cloud environment. In this role, you are the technical point of contact: you review their work and safeguard quality. The team provides services to the other teams, supporting rather than blocking. Therefore, you will actively seek out collaboration.
Ownership of developer tooling: GitHub Enterprise, Grafana, Sentry, and SSO via Entra.
Managing and further developing the GCP and Cloudflare environments together with our infrastructure partner.
Tackling the security backlog: IAM improvements, following up on recommendations, and periodic pentests.
Building DevSecOps into the IaC pipeline: CI/CD for Terraform with validation and security scanning.
Monitoring and optimizing costs on GCP, including Committed Use Discounts.
Documenting in Confluence and recording decisions as ADRs.
You have a strong background in cloud infrastructure and platform work. You work at an HBO/WO level (Higher Professional/University education) and have at least 4 years of relevant experience (medior-plus to senior). Additionally, we expect:
Experience with GCP, AWS and/or Azure (compute, network, load balancing) and Terraform;
Experience with CI/CD via GitHub and working in a monorepo;
Knowledge of Cloudflare: DNS, WAF, and Workers;
Experience managing developer tooling, such as GitHub Enterprise with Entra/SSO and Sentry;
Strong plus: demonstrable depth in cloud security, such as IAM and least-privilege, vulnerability management, threat detection, and security gates in CI/CD;
Strong plus: demonstrable depth in observability: Grafana Cloud, OTEL Collector, Prometheus, alerting, and log retention.
A varied job at a fast-growing, international e-commerce company where you make a real contribution to further professionalization, plus:
A contract for (initially) 12 months with a view to permanent employment.
A competitive salary between € 3,302 and € 6,427 gross per month (based on full-time), depending on your experience and skills.
Excellent secondary employment conditions, including a bonus scheme of up to 1.5 months' salary, a good pension scheme, and staff discounts.
Hybrid working: at least 2 days per week in the office, you decide the rest.
Training budget and room for certification, for example in the field of cloud security or Terraform.
Travel allowance, bike lease plan, laptop, home office allowance, and a pleasant working atmosphere in the office and on outings.
