The role

Do you have practical experience with hydraulic systems and do you know how to quickly determine what is needed based on a technical question? Do you enjoy bringing technology and costs together? Then this position is for you.

At Royal IHC, you work on large and technically challenging installations for the maritime sector, offshore, dredging industry, and industrial applications. As a Cost Estimator Hydraulics, you ensure that we can quickly and realistically determine how a hydraulic system should be constructed and what it will cost during the quotation phase.

You are the one who converts technical requests into a concrete and substantiated cost price.

What you'll do

As a Cost Estimator Hydraulics, you work on new customer requests during the quotation phase. You receive technical specifications or customer wishes and translate these into an initial hydraulic setup.

You do not create a complete engineering package, but you must be able to determine technically how a system should look. Often you start with a sketch on paper: which users (cylinders, winches) need to be controlled and which sources and controls (HPUs, manifolds) will I then need? How large must the system be? What capacity is required?

From that technical basis, you subsequently make the cost price calculation.

Concretely, this means you:

  • Assessing customer requests and technical specifications
  • Creating an initial hydraulic system setup (sketch/on paper)
  • Determining which hydraulic components are required
  • Estimating and calculating quantities, powers, and capacities
  • Requesting quotes from suppliers for components and systems
  • Comparing and assessing prices
  • Preparing cost price calculations for complete hydraulic installations
  • Identifying technical and commercial risks
  • Consulting with engineering, procurement, and fellow estimators to arrive at a good offer

What does your work look like?

No two days are the same. One time you are working on a hydraulic system for a dredging vessel, the next time on an offshore winch installation or a Launch & Recovery System.

You are primarily busy with:

  • researching technical information
  • determining system construction
  • selecting components
  • approaching suppliers
  • collecting prices
  • making calculations

Your work forms the basis for quotes and new projects.
