The role

BOVAG Business is looking for a Portfolio Performance Lead who, together with the management teams of its holdings, works on better business performance and sustainable value creation. A new, independent position in which you connect financial sharpness to entrepreneurship, commercial development, and concrete improvements.

You will work directly with the two executive directors and act as a substantive sparring partner for the management teams and financial officers of the holdings. You will fathom their business models, make performance insights visible, and help translate plans and growth opportunities into well-founded choices.

Each of the holdings has its own management team, business model, and development agenda. For some, unbundling and further professionalization require attention. At the same time, there are opportunities for commercial growth, better results, and collaboration between the companies.

An important first assignment is strengthening business reporting and setting up a clear reporting and consultation cycle. In doing so, you provide the Board with useful steering information, creating a solid foundation for discussions regarding performance, business plans, and investments.

From that foundation, you support the management teams in sharpening their business models and multi-year budgets. You also investigate where additional growth opportunities lie, for example through collaboration, larger investments, or acquisitions, and help translate these into realistic business cases.

You will be given plenty of room to shape the role. You will build your influence through expertise, trust, and persuasiveness. The management teams retain their responsibility for business operations and results.

What you'll do

  • Supports management teams and financial officers in improving business reporting and setting up a monthly, quarterly, and shareholder cycle, aligned with the information needs of the Board
  • Develops a coherent portfolio overview and translates financial and operational developments into clear insights, advice, and points of attention
  • Discusses revenue, margins, costs, and growth and makes visible where adjustment or decision-making is required
  • Supports management teams with business plans and multi-year budgets and tests assumptions against market opportunities and the feasibility of the business model
  • Helps substantiate growth opportunities, larger investments, and possible acquisitions with concrete, realistic business cases
  • Identifies opportunities for collaboration between holdings regarding products, services, data, and customers
  • Prepares administrative discussions and decision-making and monitors the follow-up of agreements and improvement actions

Requirements

  • A solid financial-business economics foundation and experience in analyzing and improving business performance
  • Experience in building or strengthening management reporting, planning and control, and financial steering information
  • Ability to fathom business models and critically assess budgets, forecasts, and business cases
  • Commercial insight and the ability to connect market opportunities to financial and operational choices
  • Sufficient experience and firmness to substantively challenge and engage management teams and directors
  • Independent, entrepreneurial, and practical-minded, with the ability to bring structure to a new role
  • Relationally strong and persuasive, with a sense for administrative relationships and persistence in execution

Suitable backgrounds include, for example, business control, finance business partnering, CFO services, finance transformation, performance improvement, or portfolio management. Decisive is your ability to connect analyses to concrete improvements in business practice.

Pluses: experience with multiple companies or business units, financial professionalization following a carve-out, and the assessment of investments or acquisitions.
