Requirements
What we're looking for
- HBO (Higher Professional Education) working and thinking level, preferably in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
- Extensive technical experience in an industrial production environment and experience leading a maintenance department.
- Good knowledge of mechanical and electrical installations and industrial automation.
- Experience with preventive maintenance, breakdown analysis, maintenance planning, and maintenance management systems.
- Affinity with PLC/SCADA, digitalization, external service providers, and technical improvement projects.
The role
Elastofirm is a European group of specialized companies in the rubber and silicone industry. The group combines technical expertise and entrepreneurship with the advantages of a larger industrial organization.
Flevo Rubber Compounding (FRC) in Lelystad produces high-quality rubber compounds for external customers and companies within the Elastofirm Group. The plant is in a phase of growth, modernization, and further professionalization. This places increasingly high demands on the technical availability of installations and the organization of the Technical Service.
As Maintenance Manager, you are responsible for the daily management and further development of the Technical Service. You ensure that machines and installations function safely, reliably, and with as little unplanned downtime as possible.
The Technical Service is in an important transition: from a primarily reactive breakdown organization to a professional, planned, and preventive maintenance organization. Furthermore, growing production requires reliable technical support 24 hours a day, through an effective combination of internal employees and external specialists.
You report to the Operations Director and work closely with Production and Engineering. The guiding principle is: daily discipline, getting better every day.
What you'll do
- Leading, coaching, and developing the maintenance team.
- Ensuring fast, safe, and effective resolution of technical breakdowns.
- Drafting and monitoring daily and weekly maintenance schedules; prioritizing based on safety and production impact.
- Being actively involved in complex technical problems yourself and providing practical support where necessary.
- Developing the Technical Service from reactive to planned and preventive maintenance.
- Drafting, executing, and securing maintenance plans for critical machines and installations.
- Structurally analyzing and reducing breakdowns; managing critical assets, risks, and spare parts.
- Implementing and utilizing McMain for work orders, maintenance history, planning, and technical documentation.
- Developing a reliable and affordable technical support organization for a growing 24-hour production environment.
- Organizing consignment, breakdown follow-up, and escalation outside of regular working hours.
- Determining which competencies are needed internally and when external specialists should be deployed.
- Building a network of technical partners with clear agreements regarding availability, response times, and responsibilities.
Improvement agenda & technical development
- Drafting and realizing a concrete maintenance improvement agenda focused on reliability and maintenance efficiency.
- Collaborating with Engineering on modifications, automation, and CAPEX projects.
- Preparing the maintenance organization for new installations and further capacity growth.
- Securing safe working practices, statutory inspections, technical standards, 5S, and order & cleanliness.
Organization and Collaboration
- Developing technical competencies, knowledge transfer, and backup within the team.
- Realizing good cooperation with Production, including first-line checks and problem-solving by operators.
- Building a culture of clear agreements, ownership, and continuous improvement.
Personal characteristics
We are emphatically not looking for an office manager, but for a hands-on technical leader who feels at home on the shop floor. You are technically strong, practically minded, and not afraid to get your hands dirty yourself. During complex breakdowns, you go into the factory, search for solutions together with employees, and help out yourself where necessary.
At the same time, you understand that a growing factory cannot remain dependent on individual technical heroes. You bring structure, develop people, and build a maintenance organization that functions increasingly professionally and independently. You combine decisiveness with organizational ability and bring people along in change.
Core of the function: keeping the factory running today while simultaneously building a professional, preventive, and future-proof Technical Service.
