As a Ship Metalworker, you will process ship parts and carry out various tasks on the hulls and structures of ships as instructed. The work takes place not only at the shipyard itself, but can also be on location or at the naval yard.

Damen Shipyards Den Helder is a shipyard where approximately 70 people are currently employed. We find our customers in every maritime market, but especially within the government, such as the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Rijksrederij. We are part of the Damen Shiprepair division within the Damen Group.

You will join an organization where hard work is done, but where there is also plenty of laughter. We offer an informal working environment where no two days are the same and where you work together with dedicated colleagues who all share the same passion: repairing ships.

Your duties will consist of the following:

• Receiving instructions/directions and reading diagrams/drawings;
• Assessing the workspace, scaffolding, availability of resources and materials, and determining the approach within given margins;
• Burning / cutting / removing ship parts that need to be modified / repaired / replaced and performing measurement tasks (dimensions, thickness).;
• Performing various processes (cutting, grinding, (tack) welding, deburring, etc.);
• (Independently) installing sheet metal and the setting up, aligning, and (tack) welding of profiles and beams.

• MBO level 3 working and thinking level;
• The required advanced theoretical and practical ironworking expertise;
• Manual dexterity regarding various sheet metal and structural tasks;
• You are familiar with the use of measuring and setting tools;

. VCA basic certificate;

. You can obtain a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG). This is a requirement, as we carry out many assignments for the Royal Netherlands Navy and the Rijksrederij;

. Proficiency in the Dutch and English languages is a plus.
