The role

Are you a starter or young professional who wants to combine engineering, project management, and client contact? Do you want to contribute to the water safety of the Netherlands and work on solutions for climate adaptation? As a (Junior) Project Manager Water at Fugro, you will get the chance from day one to work on socially relevant projects where data, engineering, and consultancy come together.

What makes this position special is that you are involved in the entire project process. From the initial client request and quotation to execution and delivery, you play an important role in the success of our projects. You will work closely with clients, contractors, water boards, and technical specialists, and learn how to bring together different interests, schedules, and project goals. In doing so, you will work closely with other Fugro specialists in the fields of geotechnics, geohydrology, hydraulic engineering, infrastructure, geotechnical investigation, survey, geomonitoring, foundations, and geodata.

You will work at the intersection of engineering, commerce, and project management. At the beginning of your career, you will develop your technical expertise, for example as a designer, consultant, measurement specialist, or data analyst, after which you will receive increasing responsibility for your own projects or project components. You will learn how to manage planning, budget, quality, and risks, while advising clients on the best solutions for their challenges. With guidance from experienced colleagues, you will develop step by step into an independent project manager, technical manager, or design lead.

Our teams are currently involved in leading projects such as the reinforcement of the city dikes near Zwolle, the self-closing barrier near Arcen, and various area developments along the Waal, Lek, and Maas. In these, we work for water boards, contractors, and engineering firms throughout the Netherlands.

Your location is Utrecht, Arnhem, or Nootdorp. Additionally, you will regularly be present at client sites and project locations, allowing you to actually see and experience the projects in practice.

What you will do

  • Working on projects as a consultant, measurement specialist, data analyst, or work planner;
  • Guiding projects from the quotation stage through to delivery;
  • Supporting tenders and preparing proposals for new projects;
  • Managing planning, budget, quality, scope, risks, and project results;
  • Translating client requests into suitable technical solutions and advising on the most appropriate Fugro services;
  • Building and maintaining sustainable relationships with clients and stakeholders;
  • Identifying commercial opportunities and contributing to follow-up assignments;
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to successfully realize projects.

You do not need to be able to do all of this from day one. We believe in learning in practice. Together, we will look at where your qualities lie and offer you the guidance, responsibility, and development opportunities that suit your growth as a project manager.

What you have to offer

  • You are structured, commercially sensitive, and financially aware;
  • You have an interest in water safety projects;
  • You are a strong communicator and switch easily between clients, technical specialists, and executing teams;
  • You identify risks, opportunities, and changes in a timely manner and know how to act proactively;
  • You possess a Category B driver's license.
