What you create during your internship will actually be used on our construction sites later on
What does a well-organized construction site look like? Where should signage be placed? What kind of look should we give to construction fence coverings? How do we make it clear what the standard is for safety, waste, parking, or visitors? And above all: how do you ensure that a site manager doesn't have to search endlessly, but knows at a glance what is needed and which equipment belongs to it?
At Dura Vermeer, we want to capture this in a single Construction Site Protocol: a practical manual and visual standard for the construction site. It shows how we organize our construction sites in a recognizable, neat, safe, and smart way. And you are going to help make that protocol.
During this internship, you sit exactly between communication, design, and the practice of construction. One day you are talking to a site manager about what does and does not work. The next day you are organizing all the information already available within Dura Vermeer. After that, you write a guideline so that someone can understand it in a few seconds and you convert it in Adobe InDesign into a page that is also visually correct.
So you don't have to choose between writing or designing. You do both.
This is what you will do:
collecting and structuring existing guidelines and information within Dura Vermeer;
looking at how construction sites are currently organized and what challenges colleagues face in practice;
talking to site managers and colleagues within Dura Vermeer Materieel;
determining which topics, standards, and resources belong in the Dura Vermeer protocol;
creating and using photos, illustrations, icons, tables, and other visual tools to make information clear quickly;
developing new communication tools or formats where necessary;
designing the complete protocol in the Dura Vermeer corporate style;
critically testing whether someone on the construction site can actually work with it quickly and improving the protocol based on this feedback.
You will get a lot of freedom to think about questions such as: how do we make a document of this size pleasant to use? What should you show instead of explain? Which information belongs together? Which things really help a site manager further?
For this assignment, we are not just looking for someone who can design beautifully. And not just someone who can write well. It is precisely the combination that is important.
You:
enjoys reducing a lot of information to a logical structure. You can write a technical story in an understandable way and at the same time have an eye for typography, imagery, hierarchy, and design;
is following a higher professional education (HBO) program such as Communication, Creative Business, Communication & Multimedia Design (CMD), Media & Design, Crossmedia Design, Marketing Communication, Visual Communication/Graphic Design or a similar program;
writes clear and error-free Dutch;
can work with Adobe Creative Suite;
can independently retrieve information, organize it, and substantiate choices;
enjoys speaking with colleagues from different professional fields and translating their knowledge into a usable end product.
A graduation or working internship with a clear assignment and visible impact;
Plenty of room for your own initiative and input;
An internship allowance of € 700,- per month;
Guidance from communication and close cooperation with colleagues from the field;
A look behind the scenes of the construction site and the equipment service.
You are not working on research that disappears into a drawer, but on a product that will soon be visible on all our construction sites. You combine analysis, creativity, and practice and deliver something that is used directly by site managers and project teams.
Do you want to contribute to the appearance and quality of our construction sites?
