Senior Frontend Engineer

You have experience building frontends used in production, and you value well-structured, maintainable code. You think in components, understand the trade-offs of state management, and understand why performance is important.

We expect:

● Extensive experience writing frontend code in JavaScript/TypeScript

● In-depth knowledge of React (or solid experience with another modern framework such as Vue AND you also feel comfortable in React)

● Excellent understanding of component architecture and design patterns

● Experience with tools such as Git, Docker, CI/CD, and modern bundlers like Vite

● You communicate clearly: you align important choices with stakeholders and help less experienced engineers by sharing knowledge and context

● You are a role model within the team, both technically and culturally

● You speak fluent English (Dutch is helpful, but not a requirement)

Responsible for the frontend of platforms used by millions of people

At Gomibo, we develop much of our software ourselves - especially when custom solutions truly make the difference. We use open-source libraries where it makes sense, and build our own solutions when standard tools fall short. Together, these form the foundation for the webshops and tools we deploy in more than 30 European countries. As a Senior Front-end Engineer, you determine the technical course of our frontend: you refactor legacy code, further develop our design system, and ensure our React apps are scalable across the entire platform.

This is a hands-on engineering role. You write code, make architectural choices, mentor teammates, and work closely with product, design, and backend to build valuable features.

You will become part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of frontend and backend engineers, product designers, and product managers. Together with colleagues, you make important frontend decisions and play a key role in improving our way of working.

Examples of what you will do:

● Replace a legacy module with clean, reusable React components

● Improve frontend performance and developer experience using, among others, NodeJS, React, React Router v7, and TypeScript

● Improve our design system and the reusability of components

● Work together with teammates on complex bugs and refactors

● Investigate and solve strange edge cases (such as that one device in the office where the modal still acts weird)

● Provide input on the roadmap and the team's projects

● Provide mentoring to other engineers and serve as an example in how we collaborate

• Developing a dynamic SaaS platform for telecom providers: a website and app that is configurable for customers worldwide via our Content Management System (CMS).
• Developing and improving the front-end for our own CRM and warehouse system, Alice.
• Setting up and maintaining our own software libraries.

Full-time | 32-40 hours | HBO or WO level | Head office in the heart of Groningen

*You are able to work at the office in Groningen during your entire onboarding period. After that, we have a remote working policy of a maximum of 2 days per week. More days are possible in consultation.

We work agile and in small teams - usually 5 engineers, one product manager, and one product designer. Code reviews are standard. We acknowledge that legacy code exists - and we try to improve it as much as possible, step by step.
