Integral Design Lead Ports

As Design Lead Ports & Maritime Structures, you are responsible for the integral design of complex civil engineering works within port and maritime environments. Think of quays, berths, jetties, banks, terminals, and nautical facilities.

You lead multidisciplinary design teams and ensure the technical integrity, safety, integrality, and constructability of the design, from the initiative and exploratory phases to execution. You form the substantive hub between the client, engineering disciplines, and executing parties.

You work on projects that contribute directly to nautical safety, economy, logistics, and the sustainable growth of our ports and those abroad. In doing so, you make an important contribution to a future-proof maritime infrastructure and economically prosperous ports.

In this role:

• You lead and coordinate integral design processes for port and maritime structures where civil, geotechnics, structural design, electricity/lighting, and nautical requirements converge.
• You determine the design strategy and make weighted design choices that are recorded.
• You create a clear overview and weighting of the risks and manage these with appropriate mitigation measures;
• You design and coordinate the design documentation and project information according to Systems Engineering (SE), including requirements management, verification and validation, risk assessments, and design decisions.
• You work on new construction, renovation, and replacement of port structures, leading a broad and multidisciplinary team of, among others, structural engineers, geotechnicians, BIM modelers, cost experts, contract writers, and other specialists.
• You assess existing (port) structures and formulate design, reinforcement, or replacement strategies to extend their lifespan.
• You translate technical content into contract documents (including UAV‑GC and RAW) and guide technical issues towards the client, contractors, and stakeholders.
• You guide designers, including within civil engineering, geotechnics, and BIM, and you stimulate knowledge sharing and collaboration within your project team and beyond.
