Requirements

What we're looking for

  • You have at least a completed MBO education in mechanical engineering and/or an affinity with mechanical engineering and the motivation to learn this.

  • You have at least 3 years of relevant work experience with and demonstrable knowledge of performing repairs, tracing malfunctions, and performing maintenance on installations.

  • In this position, you work independently. Self-initiative and a proactive attitude are what we seek in our new colleague.

  • You have excellent analytical abilities; you understand a situation by breaking it down and determining its consequences. You leave nothing to chance in this process.

  • You oversee activities, schedule them systematically (actions, time, resources), you set priorities, and you monitor progress.

  • You are communicatively strong and proficient in Dutch and English, both spoken and written.

  • Because you will regularly work in our animal house in this position, it is important that you do not come into contact with rodents in your daily life. If this is the case, unfortunately, you will not be eligible for this position. If you have questions about this, please contact us first!

Nice to have

  • You have completed additional courses such as: fire alarm system manager, NEN 3140, NEN 1010, building management systems (Priva), and BHV. A VCA certificate and/or a VOP designation in the context of NEN 3140 is a plus.

  • Good irregularity allowances and reimbursements.

  • Partial working from home is possible.

  • 144 vacation hours and 57 hours of Personal Life Phase Budget, based on full-time employment.

  • 8.33% annual holiday allowance and a fixed year-end bonus of 8.33%.

  • A travel allowance of € 0.23 per km.

  • Free parking at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, but with our bicycle scheme and discount on public transport, we also make it attractive for you to leave the car behind.

  • Opportunity to exercise at our Fit Boutiqs.

  • Collective discount for health insurers IZZ and Zilveren Kruis.

The role

Make a real difference as a Maintenance Technician Mechanical Engineering (W) at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek. In this role, you will work daily on the technical foundation of one of the most specialized oncological hospitals in the world. You will resolve malfunctions, prevent technical problems, and contribute directly to what truly matters: the best care for our patients.

As a Maintenance Technician W, you and your colleagues are responsible for the management, maintenance, repair, and operation of mechanical building-bound installations within our hospital. This includes installations in the fields of climate, air treatment, water, and medical gases. You carry out your activities as efficiently as possible to ensure the continuity of business operations and the safety of patients, visitors, and employees. You have a versatile role in which you work with various installations across different departments. In this way, you ensure that, among others, the animal house, laboratories, operating rooms, and patient care departments continue to function optimally; in short: the entire hospital keeps running. For an eager-to-learn technician, this complex working environment offers plenty of challenge and variety.

To realize our ambitions in the field of technical management and maintenance, we are looking for a Maintenance Technician W who wants to contribute to this.

You work in a close-knit team in which you are given a lot of freedom and responsibility to organize your work independently. We believe a good work-life balance is important. Therefore, you will primarily work day shifts. Only when the situation requires it, for example during peaks or planned activities outside regular working hours, do we ask for flexible availability.

What you'll do

  • You perform preventive and corrective maintenance on mechanical installations and supervise external parties where necessary, aimed at ensuring and improving the installations.

  • You supervise the correct operation of installations such as climate and air treatment systems and ensure that these meet the requirements set by users and management.

  • You work an on-call shift once every 7 weeks, during which you are on standby outside of working hours; this is amply compensated and is a requirement for the position.

  • You locate malfunctions based on reports (e.g., via GBS) and signals from users, using drawings and diagrams. You assess the situation and risks and determine appropriate actions to prevent consequential damage.

  • You identify and report necessary maintenance and repair work to the team leader.

  • You have insight into the operation and performance of installations and make improvement proposals, both technically and in control engineering.

  • You make installations safe (for example, depressurizing), perform measurements and inspections, and responsibly return installations to service.

  • Depending on your work experience, you will also perform more coordinating tasks: taking responsibility for specific topics, the development of the field, planning of activities, and consultation with suppliers.

Why the AVL?

At the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, we all commit to the same goal: the best care for every patient and every type of cancer. That is no small feat. But not impossible. Here, science and care work together on innovation. Time and again, we find new ways that help people with cancer worldwide. Here we save lives, we win time and quality.
