What we're looking for

  • You have completed professional legal training (BO) and have 4 to 10 years of relevant work experience; as a lawyer or (partially) built up in a comparable field, such as at a government agency, project developer, or consultancy firm.

  • You have demonstrable experience with real estate development, preferably with a focus on the contractual side (think of cooperation, ancillary, and development agreements).

  • You have knowledge of and experience with contract law. Relevant knowledge of related laws and regulations such as the Environment Act and the (upcoming) Collective Heat Act is a plus.

  • Experience with conducting proceedings regarding contracts is a plus.

  • You are curious about the possibilities of legal AI and see it as an opportunity, not a threat. AKD is at the forefront of the application of AI in legal practice — you will contribute ideas on how we use those tools to serve clients even better.

  • You actively follow relevant developments in the field of real estate development and know how to translate them into practical advice for clients.

  • You think entrepreneurially: you are not only strong in substance, but also actively think along about the development of the team and the growth of your client portfolio.

  • You possess excellent communication skills in Dutch and English, both orally and in writing.

  • You are a true team player and know how to inspire your colleagues.

The role

Do you want to advise, litigate, and contract on issues that truly matter—on how we optimally utilize our scarce space? We are looking for a new colleague who also finds that appealing. Are you a lawyer with an affinity for real estate development, do you have ambition, and do you have a nose for innovation? Come strengthen our team at one of the leading firms in this field: AKD. A firm that not only leads in real estate development but also in the application of legal AI in legal practice.

What you'll do

As an associate lawyer in real estate development, you will take a central role at the intersection of litigation, advising, and contracting, in a sector that is constantly in motion. Your duties include:

  • Real estate development: you lead the contract formation for large projects. In doing so, you work on a wide range of projects such as housing, energy, and infrastructure. You safeguard legal quality and steer negotiations where necessary.

  • Public-private law issues: you advise on and work on issues where public and private law intersect. Think of tolerance obligations, preferential rights, ancillary agreements, and other public-private law aspects of real estate development. In this, you carefully balance the interests of different parties.

  • Advising governments, semi-governments, and market parties: you advise clients such as (semi-)governments, energy companies, infrastructure companies, housing associations, and project developers on the legal aspects of real estate development. You identify and analyze relevant developments in the field of contracts and related regulations, such as the Environment Act and the upcoming Collective Heat Act, and translate these into concrete advice for your clients.

  • Litigation: you represent the interests of clients in disputes arising from real estate development processes, with an emphasis on civil proceedings regarding agreements.

  • Knowledge development and sharing: you actively contribute to the knowledge base of your team and parties active in real estate development. Together with us, you help build a visible external profile through publications, annotations, lectures, teaching, and participation in working groups.

You will work closely with Keesjan Meijering and other colleagues, including specialists in the fields of administrative law, real estate, and energy law. Together, you will bring projects to a successful conclusion from an integrated public-private law perspective.

Hiring process

Then please feel free to contact:

They will be happy to tell you more.

The selection process at AKD lasts a maximum of one month and consists of interviews, an assessment, and a pre-employment screening. You can find more information about this on our website.

The location is not leading: our team is active from Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Eindhoven, and we do not mind which office you start from, or even a combination thereof. We will determine this together, depending on your preferences, experience, and the needs of the practice.
