The role
As a residential support worker at De Windehof, you are a familiar face for residents aged 55 and older with mental health vulnerabilities. You provide personal guidance, stimulate their independence, and ensure structure and a pleasant living environment. ADL and personal care also form an important part of your work. You support residents with washing, dressing, toileting, and other daily care moments. Additionally, you offer a listening ear, participate in activities together, and support residents in their personal goals. You identify changes in behavior and physical health and adjust guidance and care accordingly. Together with your colleagues, you ensure a safe, homely environment in which residents feel seen and heard.
Willem, a residential support worker at De Windehof, says:
"Working at De Windehof is challenging AND sociable. No two days are the same. It is precisely the small moments that give me energy: laughing together, drinking a cup of coffee, playing a game, or taking a walk. You provide residents with structure, guidance, and care, but you also ensure sociability and a nice atmosphere. We are a committed team that stands by each other and wants to achieve the best for our residents together."
Your workplace
De Windehof is a sheltered housing location in Bilthoven where 35 residents live independently in their own apartments. You will be working in building B. Here, adults aged 55 and older with various mental health vulnerabilities live, with support needs varying per client. You switch quickly between directive guidance and returning control to the client. You have an eye for the interaction between mental and somatic issues and recognize when physical complaints influence behavior or mental functioning. For example, consider confused behavior resulting from a disrupted medication level.
What do colleagues often mention first? The atmosphere. New employees and substitutes regularly describe the team as a "warm bath." We work hard, help each other where necessary, and also make time for sociability and humor. You will join a team of colleagues of different ages and backgrounds who share the same goal: supporting residents in living as pleasantly and independently as possible. What you bring
You are committed, practically minded, and know how to stand your ground. You can work independently, but you also actively seek collaboration with colleagues.
Furthermore:
You have a relevant healthcare diploma at MBO level 4, or are in the final year of a relevant HBO/WO healthcare program.
You have an affinity for elderly care, ADL, and mental health vulnerability.
You can work independently and actively seek collaboration with colleagues.
You are willing to work varying shifts, including evenings and weekends (no sleep shifts).
