Requirements

What we're looking for

  • A completed MBO or HBO education in a nautical direction;

  • At least 3 years of work experience in the maritime sector;

  • Excellent command of the Dutch language and good command of the English language (both spoken and written);

  • Flexibility: our area of operation is the entire Netherlands, Belgium, Northern Germany and sometimes International. Additionally, damage cannot be scheduled. When the situation requires it, you are willing to work outside office hours as well. But this is limited to a few times per year. We do not have 24-hour or weekend shifts. When there is an emergency or investigation outside office hours is necessary, there is always good consultation with colleagues: who can/wants to or will step in for a moment. Everyone has the right to free time, their sports evening, picking up a child from school, etc.

The role

By joining Sedgwick, you'll be part of something truly meaningful. It's what our 33,000 colleagues do every day for people around the world who are facing the unexpected. We invite you to grow your career with us, experience our caring culture, and enjoy work-life balance. Here, there's no limit to what you can achieve.

Nautical Damage Expert

Are you looking for new challenges and do you have experience as, for example, a mate/Maroff, or are you a P&I expert but want to investigate the other side of the story, do you want stability on shore or no more 24-hour or weekend shifts? But still want to get on board ships and occasionally travel abroad? Then we have an exciting position within our team for you!

Nautical Damage Expert

As a Nautical Damage Expert, you are primarily involved in the handling of damage claims with a nautical character. Think of damage to cargo, collisions, stranding or sinking of ships, engine failure or other technical problems that may have caused damage to the ship or cargo. Or suppliers in the maritime industry being held liable.

Every incident is unique, every day is different and you never stop learning.

What do you bring?

As a Nautical Damage Expert, you are a pleasant interlocutor for all parties involved and you know how to put your findings accurately on paper. You feel at home in a dynamic environment and are able to keep multiple matters/damage claims under control at the same time.

Do you also enjoy contributing to the growth of our department, are you creative in seeking solutions and do you have the ambition to further develop yourself? Then you might just be our new colleague.

What you'll do

You record the outcomes of your investigation in clear reports. Your responsibilities include:

  • Investigating the situation on-site (on board), interviewing those involved and objectively determining the damage;

  • Remotely supervising foreign colleagues/experts for investigating damages. When this is not possible or foreign colleagues do not have the right competencies, you will go yourself or be hired by them.

  • Thinking along to limit or resolve the damage.

  • Maintaining contact with involved parties such as insurers, insurance brokers and the insured.

  • Drafting a clear and factual report for your client, both in Dutch and in English.

What do we offer you?

We offer our employees an inspiring workplace. You will get plenty of space and opportunities to develop yourself professionally and personally. We offer you a career instead of a job. In addition, we offer you:

  • A varied, dynamic job with a lot of freedom and independence;

  • A very varied and collegial team of employees from all corners of the maritime/transport world;

  • A good salary, aligned with education and experience;

  • 28 annual vacation days (with full-time employment) and the possibility to purchase extra days at a favorable rate;

  • 8% holiday allowance, expense allowance and an interesting bonus scheme;

  • Lease car, mobile phone and laptop;

  • The possibility to work from home;

  • The possibility to follow relevant education and training;

  • To become a Nivre damage expert (registered expert);

  • Social and informal activities, such as Christmas drinks, department outings, team lunches, Friday afternoon drinks and staff parties.
