The role
As a Schiphol Security Manager (SSM), you are the operationally responsible party for security across the entire airport during your shift. This means you lead a complex operation in which quality, capacity, and the passenger experience constantly converge. During your shift, the operational control over the security of one of Europe's largest and most dynamic airports lies with you. You maintain an overview of what is happening across the entire airport area, know what is going on, ensure the right people are in position at the right time, and strive for operational excellence. You provide operational leadership to the total security operation and work closely with Security Officers, Duty Managers from the Security Control Center, the Operational Capacity Managers, and our security partners. You also communicate continuously with the other operational departments of Schiphol, as well as with handlers, the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, Customs, and other important stakeholders. And how you approach this? That is up to you. We rely on your ability to sense what others need and respond to it in a pleasant manner. You will apply your talents to:
What you'll do
- leading and providing direction to the operational service. You ensure focus, stimulate a professional attitude, and contribute to the cooperation and development of employees.
- conducting the operational control over the entire security operation during your shift, while monitoring safety, quality, and capacity.
- anticipating and adjusting the operation, for example in the case of capacity problems, changing passenger flows, deviations in quality, or unexpected situations.
- connecting people and organizations within and outside Schiphol, including Security Officers, the Security Control Center, security companies, handlers, operational departments, and government parties.
- acting and maintaining an overview during incidents and emergencies.
- contributing to the further professionalization of Security Operations, including in the areas of processes, performance, cooperation, and culture.
In the event of incidents and emergencies, you will participate in the emergency organization and the CVO (Consultation Committee) from your role. You ensure the correct escalation and communication towards the management of Security Operations. Where necessary, you pass on the operational coordination to the designated colleagues. You work in a shared continuous roster of early, late, and day shifts. Additionally, you are part of the CVO on-call rotation for the night.
