The role

Keeping the Netherlands running, that is our mission. As Lead Engineer, you ensure that the electricity grid remains future-proof. Together with your team, you work on challenging technical projects that contribute to a stable and sustainable energy system. You are responsible for directing, controlling, and successfully delivering projects, programs, or portfolios. Through your connecting and inspiring approach, you know how to bring people and stakeholders along and contribute to realizing the energy transition.

What you'll do

As Lead Engineer, you are involved in various high-voltage projects from the initiation phase through to commissioning. You are responsible for the integral technical management of projects and ensure that technical quality, safety, and feasibility are guaranteed throughout the entire project cycle. Together with discipline engineers, the environment team, and contractors, you work on technically feasible and future-proof solutions. Additionally, you deal with:

  • Directing discipline engineers and coordinating all technical project aspects, including specifications, drawings, and calculations.
  • Advising on technical issues during the definition and design phases of projects.
  • Determining optimal execution methods, where safety, controllability, and efficiency are central.
  • Aligning with internal and external stakeholders, such as environment managers, cable and pipeline owners, regional grid operators, technologists, and engineers from contractors.
  • Assessing technical documentation during tenders and answering technical questions in the Invitation to Tender.
  • Initiating, monitoring, and controlling client-owned goods and direct deliveries at the construction site.
  • Guiding and assessing Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and commissioning tests.

With your technical expertise and connecting approach, you ensure that projects are realized safely, in a controlled manner, and according to schedule.

What you bring

Your responsibilities

You are a strong technical professional who knows how to oversee complex projects and connect people. With your leadership and coordination skills, you direct multidisciplinary teams, safeguard the cohesion between disciplines, and maintain course, even when the pressure is high. You are analytically strong, understand technical, procedural, and organizational issues, and know how to translate these into clear choices and concrete results.

Additionally, you understand better than anyone that successful projects require more than just technical expertise. You are environmentally sensitive, have an eye for diverse interests, and move easily between internal and external stakeholders. Thanks to your proactive attitude, result-orientedness, and connecting approach, you know how to bring different disciplines and interests together toward one common goal. Additionally, you possess:

Competencies

  • Financial Insight: You understand the financial impact of projects, manage based on budget-conscious actions, and make substantiated decisions based on financial and performance indicators. In doing so, you know how to bring others along in the interest of cost control and result-oriented working.
  • Delivering results: You set yourself and others in motion to achieve agreed results. Even in the face of challenges or setbacks, you keep the focus on the objectives, create a sense of urgency, and ensure that deadlines are met and successes are realized structurally.
  • Strengthening engagement: You create an environment in which people take ownership and feel responsible for collective results. You know how to motivate colleagues, recognize and value good performance, and ensure that successes are celebrated together. Through this, you build an engaged and result-oriented team.

TenneT offers you the chance to contribute to a sustainable energy future. Together with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders, you will work on innovative solutions that make the energy transition possible. With us, you will get the space to develop your talent and work in an environment where your growth is central. We encourage initiative and give you the space to come up with new ideas.
