The role

That is why you want to work at NS as a Technical Service Technician (senior)

What you'll do

  • Want to work in a super-modern workshop with large, unique machines specifically for train maintenance.
  • Would like to work on large, complex installations where mechanics, hydraulics, electrical engineering, and control software come together.
  • Would like to maintain the overview: you see connections between different machines and thus prevent malfunctions and downtime in the entire production line.

''Together with your colleagues, you know how to contribute to the best possible availability of our trains''.

As a Technical Service Technician (senior), you ensure that our machines and tools keep running, so that trains can be safely modernized and overhauled. You perform preventive maintenance, resolve malfunctions, and contribute ideas for improvements.

You work in the technical workshops in Haarlem and Amsterdam. There, large, modern machines are located with which we, among other things, overhaul the wheels and bogies of trains. You ensure that these installations are safe, are well-maintained, and comply with all regulations.

With your broad technical knowledge, you will be involved in, among other things:

  • Maintaining electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic machines, both preventively and during malfunctions.
  • Independently resolving malfunctions and emergencies in the automated production line for wheelsets, including the control software
  • Liaising between suppliers, manufacturers, management, maintenance engineering, and work planners
  • Analyzing malfunctions and improving maintenance together with the asset manager
  • Investigating problems with coupled machines and installations and devising structural solutions
  • Collaborating on the development and commissioning of new machines and systems
  • Contributing to improvements in the maintenance process, including through the Management of Change committee and multidisciplinary improvement teams.

Where you will work

In the workshops of Haarlem and Amsterdam, you ensure that the maintenance of our trains can continue. Together with your colleagues, you keep all machines, installations, and tools safe and in good condition. This allows the technicians to do their work on the trains well.

You will join a technical team of 12 technicians, within a department of approximately 35 colleagues. You help each other during malfunctions, tackle jobs together, and you see the direct results of your work on the floor. The atmosphere is down-to-earth and collegial. There are regularly fun activities with colleagues, such as a sporting activity.

You work in day and evening shifts: from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM or from 3:20 PM to 11:20 PM. Approximately once a month, you have a one-week on-call shift for malfunctions, during which you are available to be called in.

At NS, we find diversity and inclusion important; it makes working together more enjoyable and often improves the results. What your background or beliefs are does not matter: we are primarily curious about your vision on the position of Technical Service Technician (senior).

These are the job requirements

  • You have completed an MBO-level 4 education in the field of electrical engineering/mechatronics, or you are an HBO starter with a completed education in industrial automation or electrical engineering.
  • You have knowledge of various PLCs, preferably Siemens.
  • Being able to read software and implement small changes.
  • You have both broad and deep-specialist knowledge of maintenance and malfunctions in industrial machines.
  • You are honest and you adapt easily when the work situation requires flexible deployment.

These are the employment conditions

Working at NS means that you can make *the* difference in the dynamic world of sustainable mobility. You help keep the Netherlands accessible, for everyone. At NS, you get a lot of freedom. The possibilities to develop yourself are great. We promise you that no day is the same. And as one of the most beautiful employers in the Netherlands, we have even more to offer. For this position, including:

  • A salary between € 2,985 and € 4,807 (scale 58) gross per month (based on a 36-hour work week).
  • An additional allowance for working early/late shifts.
  • A 36-hour work week.
  • 144 hours of statutory leave (based on a 36-hour work week) supplemented with extra leave depending on age (minimum one week).
  • The possibility to exchange 3 national holidays for 3 non-national holidays.
  • 3% end-of-year bonus, 8% holiday allowance, and an excellent pension scheme.
  • Your train travel in 2nd class is free; travel in 1st class is possible with a small personal contribution.
  • Your family travels for free during off-peak hours.
  • Discount on European train travel once you have worked at NS for 1 year.
  • Professional development opportunities
  • A choice plan including, among others, a bicycle plan, extra pension accrual, or extra vacation days.
