The role

Do you want to use data to contribute to better patient safety and the prevention of healthcare-associated infections? Within the Infection Prevention team of the Medical Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention (MMI) department, we work daily on monitoring, preventing, and combating infections in the hospital. Data play an increasingly large role in this. You will collect, analyze, and interpret data regarding healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial resistance, and the transmission of microorganisms. You will translate this data into actionable insights for infection prevention specialists, medical microbiologists, and other healthcare professionals. In this way, you contribute to surveillance, outbreak investigations, evaluation of infection prevention measures, and scientific research. Additionally, you will develop dashboards and reports that make infection trends visible and allow the impact of interventions to be monitored.

What you'll do

  • Setting up, executing, and further developing surveillance of healthcare-associated infections, antimicrobial resistance, and other infection prevention-relevant indicators;

  • Supporting outbreak investigations by combining data from various sources and making transmission patterns insightfull;

  • Analyzing and interpreting microbiological, clinical, and epidemiological data to support infection prevention policy;

  • Evaluating the effectiveness of infection prevention measures and contributing to quality improvement projects;

  • Supporting scientific research within the field of infection prevention.

What does your work environment look like?

The Medical Microbiology, Infectious Diseases and Infection Prevention (MMI) department provides microbiological diagnostics for healthcare providers in Maastricht UMC+, general practitioners, the GGD, and other healthcare institutions in the South Limburg region. MMI consists of a dynamic team of over 100 employees and includes both clinical diagnostic and research laboratories. In addition to performing routine microbiological diagnostics, research, education, training, and infection prevention are also important tasks of the department.

You will become part of the Infection Prevention (IP) unit: an enthusiastic team of 5 infection prevention specialists, 1 sterile medical device / endoscope specialist (DSMH), and 1 infection prevention assistant, led by 2 medical microbiologists. The new Electronic Patient Record contains an enormous amount of data with which we can improve the infection safety of our hospital in the future. Your specific knowledge and skills will contribute to this goal.
