The role

Do you, just like us, have a passion for retail and food? And do you want to use your experience as a buyer to work towards our sustainable ambitions? Then we would love to meet you!

What you'll do

In the position of buyer near food at Lidl Netherlands, you are responsible in the broadest sense for everything related to purchasing; you are responsible for both creating a strategic plan for your product group(s) and for sourcing, maintaining, and expanding customer relationships. Additionally, you decide on assortment formation, determine quality during the development of new and existing items, negotiate purchasing conditions with suppliers, and determine the selling price. In doing so, you work together with other specialist departments (such as Sales, Marketing, Quality, CSR) and our international headquarters in Germany.

Like no other, you know what is happening in the market on both the supply and demand sides, because you closely monitor the competition, trends, and developments within food retail. With your entrepreneurial and commercial eye, you are constantly informed of and ultimately responsible for the performance within your category(ies) based on purchasing, sales, and market figures. Additionally, you are a quick thinker who has the ability to make many impactful decisions in the short term and maintain an overview. Your responsibilities and activities:

What will you do?

  • Ultimately responsible for the purchasing process, from sourcing at the supplier until the product finally sits in our stores.
  • Determining the selling price and thus having a major influence on the margin we make as a company.
  • Keeping a close eye on the market and competition, knowing trends and developments, and being able to respond to them quickly and effectively.
  • Searching for new suppliers where necessary, maintaining daily contact with existing suppliers, and negotiating terms.
  • Actively seeking collaboration with other specialist departments such as Sales, Marketing, CSR, and Promotion Management to take your category to a higher level.
  • Constantly seeking to improve our products in collaboration with suppliers and our quality specialists.
  • Giving shape to a surprising and varying in-out assortment together with the Promotion Management department.
  • You actively think along about commercial aspects such as the packaging and marketing of your products — super important, because that is after all the first thing the customer sees!

For this position, result-orientation, communication skills, courage, and persuasiveness are indispensable. You possess good analytical skills and have extensive experience at the negotiating table. As a sharp negotiator, you are only satisfied with the best result, where the quality of the products always comes first!
