What we're looking for

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a Platform Engineer, DevOps Engineer, or Site Reliability Engineer.
  • Demonstrable experience with Kubernetes, preferably Red Hat OpenShift.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, Terraform, and Ansible.
  • Experience with observability platforms and monitoring complex platform environments.
  • Knowledge of Linux, networking, and storage within Kubernetes environments.
  • HBO or WO working and thinking level and a good command of the Dutch and English languages.

Nice to have

Additionally, experience with technologies such as Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (ACM), Red Hat Advanced Cluster Security (ACS), OpenShift Virtualization, Velero, VMware vSphere, Azure Local, or Bare Metal OpenShift is a strong advantage.

  • A gross monthly salary of at least €5,945 and a maximum of €9,177 depending on your work experience, based on 40 hours excluding 8% holiday allowance

The role

Within Tech Hub Private Cloud, we deliver secure, scalable, and fully managed cloud-native platform services from Dutch data centers. Our OpenShift platforms form the foundation for mission-critical applications of organizations within sectors such as government, healthcare, industry, and vital infrastructure.

Reliability, security, and continuity are central to what we do. That is why we continuously invest in automation, standardization, and innovation to keep our platforms future-proof. Resolving incidents is important, but preventing them is where we make the difference.

You will join a team of specialists working daily on the further development of our Managed OpenShift services. Together, you will improve the reliability of our platforms by automating processes, leveraging operational insights, and implementing structural technical improvements.

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you are responsible for the reliability, availability, and scalability of our Managed OpenShift platforms. You combine software engineering, automation, and operational expertise to continuously improve service delivery. In doing so, you focus not only on incident management, but especially on structurally increasing stability and preventing disruptions. You work from the principle of Everything as Code and play an important role in the further development of our cloud-native platform services. Using data, automation, and observability, you ensure that our platforms continue to function securely, future-proof, and efficiently. In this way, you make a direct impact on mission-critical services for our customers.

What you'll do

In this role:

  • You increase the availability and stability of our OpenShift platforms.
  • You define and monitor Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and Error Budgets.
  • You perform reliability reviews and platform health assessments.
  • You reduce operational risks and technical debt within the platform.
  • You automate management activities using techniques such as GitOps, Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Kubernetes Operators, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • You develop and manage observability solutions including Grafana, Loki, Tempo, OpenTelemetry, and the LGTM stack.
  • You translate operational data into concrete improvements for our services.
  • You take the technical lead during complex disruptions and perform Root Cause Analyses.
  • You automate solutions for recurring incidents and contribute to Continual Service Improvement.
  • You are responsible for OpenShift upgrades, Kubernetes lifecycle management, platform hardening, capacity management, and Disaster Recovery validation.
  • You collaborate with security specialists on the highest standards regarding security and compliance.
  • You contribute to security solutions surrounding, among others, ACS, Policy as Code, image scanning, RBAC, and multi-tenancy.

In this way, you make an impact within KPN and ensure that our cloud platforms continue to function reliably for the organizations that trust us.
