Technical Housing Graduation Internship KPN

KPN connects people and organizations with reliable digital services. Behind this service delivery stands an extensive technical infrastructure with network equipment, data centers, and other technical locations.

Technical Housing manages the physical environments in which a significant part of this infrastructure operates. We ensure that these locations remain secure, reliable, and future-proof.

You will join Site and Floor Management. This team builds and manages the infrastructure in the data centers and is involved in on-site service delivery and the management of technical equipment. You will work together with colleagues with knowledge of data centers, technical infrastructure, and data quality.

In data centers, the location of servers, network equipment, and other technical devices is tracked digitally. Due to placements and movements, this registration can sometimes deviate from the actual situation.

During this graduation internship, you will investigate whether RFID can help to automatically recognize equipment and make location discrepancies visible. RFID is a technique with which an electronic tag can be read remotely. You will build and test a prototype using RFID tags, a reader, test equipment, and a shielded test registration.

These are some of the activities you will undertake:

• You will create a research and test plan.
• You will build an RFID test setup using real hardware.
• You will link RFID observations to devices and locations in a test registration.
• You will develop an application, script, or dashboard that makes location discrepancies visible.
• You will test, among other things, the reading distance, reliability, tag position, and the influence of metal.
• You will analyze the results, present your prototype, and advise KPN on a possible next step.
• You will work in a secure test environment and will not modify any production data or critical systems.
