The world is at your feet as a Process Manager Baggage System at KLM. You ensure that the baggage handling system (BHS), which is indispensable in the baggage operations of KLM and its partners but managed by Royal Schiphol Groep (RSG), remains as available and usable as possible. As a senior user, you will have a role in all major projects executed by RSG to keep the BHS top-fit, and you will ensure that RSG's project portfolio meets the current and future requirements and wishes of KLM. Additionally, you will have a role in the design process of the Baggage Control System (BCS) for a new baggage hall, which we undergo together with RSG, Vanderlande, and IBM. You will also work continuously on making available and combining the right data from the BHS and our own processes conducted around the BHS. You help interpret this data and translate it into clear insights, improvement proposals, and substantiated decisions. In doing so, you focus specifically on the performance, capacity, and availability of the BHS and the associated BCS. And you won't let all the abbreviations we use drive you crazy.

You work in a dynamic environment where logistics, technology, and daily operations converge. At KLM, you get the chance to constantly exceed yourself.

What you'll do

As a process manager, you lead trajectories and projects that improve the BHS, the Baggage Control System (BCS), and the associated operational processes. These projects impact our operational performance, costs, flight safety, sustainability, employee satisfaction, and the healthy employability of our employees. You work on multi-year plans that lead to major changes within aviation, but you also switch quickly when an operational problem requires a solution. You investigate complex process problems, analyze data, maintain an eye on the stakeholder field, follow relevant developments within and outside KLM, and question RSG firmly if necessary. Based on this, you develop improvement proposals and innovative solutions. These may be improvements in hardware, software, or operational processes surrounding the baggage system. In doing so, you do not look only at one department or process step, but also monitor the coherence between the processes of Baggage Services and other parts of Ground Services and KLM.

In addition to these tasks, you help substantiate and prioritize improvement initiatives and projects, based on their expected value and required effort. Subsequently, you guide these from research and design to implementation, evaluation, and safeguarding. You advise the Baggage Services MT on process improvement, digitalization, and operational issues. You make proposals for policy regarding the BHS and translate the direction of Baggage Services into concrete functional requirements. Within certain projects, you can act as an epic owner or business delegate. You then translate needs from operations into clear functional requirements and monitor the value that a development delivers to the organization. In RSG projects, you also fulfill the role of senior user. You represent the operational interests of KLM, signal the collective impact of various projects, discuss them with RSG, and form the link between the project and the Baggage Services operation. In project teams, you provide functional leadership to colleagues with different backgrounds and fields of expertise. You motivate and inspire stakeholders, from employees in operations to management, and ensure that everyone can make a good contribution. In doing so, you work together with, among others, unit managers, operational managers, shift leaders, digital teams, RSG, and external suppliers such as IBM and Vanderlande.

Furthermore:

  • you represent the interests of Baggage Services in RSG projects relating to the baggage system and the processes surrounding it;
  • you monitor the performance of the baggage system and the coherence between the RSG project portfolio and the operational processes of Baggage Services;
  • you advise clients and the Baggage Services MT on complex process issues, project choices, and opportunities for improvement;
  • together with management, you determine which data insights are needed and ensure that data from the baggage system becomes available for analyses, management information, and dashboards;
  • you ensure that process improvements are carefully implemented, evaluated, and safeguarded, with attention to safety, environment, and security.

You report to the Head Project & Process Support.

Your profile

You quickly map out where a process or technical system is stalling, are positively critical of RSG research, and investigate which causes and interests play a role. Subsequently, you translate complex information and data into clear advice or a practical improvement proposal. You switch easily between strategic plans and issues from daily operations. In project teams, you provide structure, clear agreements, and progress. You listen to different perspectives and know how to involve both operational employees and management in changes. Even without a formal managerial position, you get people moving. You share your knowledge in an accessible way and help colleagues to apply improvements permanently. In the collaboration with RSG, you represent the interests of KLM and know how to resolve conflicting interests within your mandate or escalate them in a timely manner. In doing so, you have an eye for the stakeholder landscape.

Your profile is completed with the following competencies: taking initiative, planning and organizing, interpersonal sensitivity, persuasiveness, analytical problem-solving, collaboration, organizational awareness, and realizing results.
