The role
Every year, an average of two superyachts leave the dry docks of the Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw shipyard in Aalsmeer. Luxury, custom-made yachts that distinguish themselves through the quality of construction, engineering, and finishing.
As an Interior Detail Engineer, you play a key role in creating the perfect experience on board. Thanks to your expertise in furniture, you ensure that every custom piece - from the owner's bedside table to the dining table in the crew mess - fits seamlessly into the yacht. You make the difference, and your work ensures that the ultimate experience on board becomes a reality!
Using the TopSolid'Wood program, you design the interior in 2D/3D. To do this well - no, perfectly! - you will literally go to the shipyard to gather information. Imagine you have to draw a ceiling:
What you'll do
Our yachts in Aalsmeer are up to 90 meters long. From the ceilings and wall panels to the owner's vanity and the wheelhouse. We design, produce, and install the furniture on board. Every yacht is different because we make them to custom specifications. Engineering and Production work closely together in this process, and you play a key role in that.
Using the TopSolid'Wood program, you design the interior in 2D/3D. To do this well - no, perfectly! - you will literally go to the shipyard to gather information. Imagine you have to draw a ceiling:
- The 1:20 interior views you create must first be approved by the new owner of the yacht. For this, you coordinate with the Interior Project Manager.
- You look up the safety plans so that, for example, you know where the sprinkler system needs to be located. But matters such as insulation, noise standards, ventilation systems, and the lighting plan are also important for drawing the ceiling.
- You are also closely involved in production. For example, you discuss the manufacturability of furniture. This way, potential problems in the production process are identified and prevented early on.
- Finally, you review the result in the joinery and on board when they install 'your' furniture. Gathering feedback is important so that you can do even better next time.
The 3D program has been fully configured by us. Everything is interconnected: from the software program to the CNC machine in the machine shop. If you are familiar with TopSolid'Wood, the work is both fun and efficient. You spend approximately 50% of your time collecting information and updating data. The other 50% you are busy with designing. About 25 fellow engineers work for Interior, 12 of whom use TopSolid'Wood. You work on the interior for one yacht for about six to nine months.

Our offer
The yachts under construction are located just a stone's throw from your workplace. How unique is that!?
Good compensation is more than just a good salary. For us, enjoyment in the work and a good work-life balance are at least as important. The more you enjoy it, the better your contribution to our projects. We have a pleasant work culture where people feel they belong and where there is an open dialogue. There is little hierarchy and you will quickly feel at home. Furthermore, we offer you:
- A salary between € 3,400 and € 4,700 (full-time), matching your knowledge and experience.
- 40 (!) days off per year with full-time employment (27 vacation days plus 13 ATV).
- Ample opportunities to develop yourself, for example by following training and courses.
- A work week of 40 hours (32 - 36 hours per week is negotiable).
- You have the possibility to work partly from home, combined with at least three office days per week.
- Flexible start times possible (on the full or half hour), between 6:00 AM and 9:00 AM (coordinated with your supervisor).
- Travel allowance of € 0.25 per kilometer.
- Great colleagues and an active staff association that organizes fun activities such as summer BBQs, Sinterklaas celebrations, Christmas celebrations, bowling, bingo, participation in sports activities such as the dam-to-dam run, Mud Masters, a padel tournament, beach volleyball, a New Year's dive, and much more.
- Plenty of variety and freedom during your activities.
Every Feadship is custom built and cannot exist without your contribution. Therefore, there is always a piece of yourself in it. That gives a sense of responsibility. But also certainly a sense of pride. And that is perhaps the most important thing we can offer you.
