The role
higher education/HBO internship, from February 2027
Are you that perfectionist with a passion for the English language?
Do you follow the latest news and want to contribute to a government agency with great social relevance?
Do you have an affinity for scientific articles and statistics?
This is your challenge
At CBS, statistical research forms the basis for all media communications. Various requests arrive at the translation agency from throughout the entire organization. The English-language website plays an important role in disseminating information among non-Dutch speakers.
You will work on translating and revising content for the CBS website.
You will make use of translation tools (including MemoQ).
Because you will be working on multiple publications simultaneously, you will learn to create a good schedule and experience what it is like to work with deadlines.
You will liaise with clients and an external translation agency and consult reference material.

This is your internship position at CBS The Hague
You will join a small team and receive intensive guidance. There is close cooperation with, among others, the editorial team and colleagues from logistics and planning. Additionally, there is contact with various departments. The translation agency delivers approximately 40 products per month, including news reports, webpages, corporate articles, letters, and presentations.
This is what you bring
You are following a translator training program specializing in English, or you have a bachelor's degree in English and are pursuing a master's in Translation Studies.
You have knowledge of and some experience with:
translation tools (preferably MemoQ);
professional developments in the field of AI;
Microsoft Word, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat;
Social media (LinkedIn).
You also follow the news and background stories in the media.
In this internship, you will be given the space to demonstrate your accuracy, communication skills, and initiative. You enjoy collaborating, maintain an overview, and can handle different tasks and changes well. You are flexible, organized, and ensure that agreements and deadlines are met. Collaboration and result-oriented working are central to this.
Because all communication during the internship - both oral and written - takes place in Dutch, a good command of the Dutch language is necessary.
This is what you can expect from us
A pleasant learning environment in which you:
learn to create clear translations that are factual and objective;
improve your English (translation) skills and gain work experience with translation tools;
experience what it is like to work in a team and to deal with deadlines.
In return for your commitment, you will receive an internship allowance of € 800 gross per month (based on 40 hours per week).
Together with your internship supervisor, you will coordinate how you can work hybridly, with flexible working hours and the option to work partly from home on your internship assignment.
These are our conditions
This concerns an internship assignment and not a work experience placement. Before you begin the internship, we expect you to have an internship supervisor from your educational institution, with whom the internship has been coordinated and concrete learning objectives have been agreed upon.
This internship assignment is intended for students who are currently enrolled at an educational institution; graduates are not eligible.
