The role
bachelor thesis internship, from February 2027
Are you that analytical master's student who is curious about the flow in the housing market?
Do you get energy from conducting research, working with data, and programming in R?
Do you want to apply your research skills to a current social issue?
This is your challenge
Moving chains provide insight into the flow in the housing market and are therefore topical and relevant. CBS has developed a method to visualize these chains. The dashboard Verhuisketens in Nederland shows, among other things, the average length of a moving chain. However, there is still much room for in-depth analysis.
During this internship, you can conduct graduation research into the role of senior housing in the flow of the housing market. In doing so, you can search for answers to the following questions:
To what extent does the construction of senior housing contribute to the flow in the housing market?
What is the influence of aging and the death of elderly people on the flow and the housing supply?
If you have a good research question of your own that aligns with this theme, there is also room for that.
This is your internship position at CBS The Hague
The Policy Statistics department consists of 70 colleagues divided between The Hague and Heerlen. Researchers and project leaders with many different academic backgrounds work within our department. We compile figures that are used for developing, monitoring, and improving policy, often with a cross-thematic character. We are a collaborative partner in the field of data-driven working within governments.
This is what you bring
You are almost finished with your master's degree in social sciences, demography, spatial planning, or a related field and are looking for a graduation internship to successfully complete your studies.
Additionally:
do you have (some) experience with programming in R;
can you conduct research and analyze outcomes independently;
do you know how to conduct research using various methods and techniques.
Keywords that describe you are enthusiastic, proactive, and analytical.
Because all communication during the internship—both oral and written—takes place in Dutch, a good command of the Dutch language is necessary.
This is what you can expect from us
A pleasant learning environment in which you:
increase your professional knowledge and gain work experience;
apply programming skills in practice;
learn to work with CBS data.
In return for your commitment, you will receive an internship allowance of € 800 gross per month (based on 40 hours per week).
Together with your internship supervisor, you will coordinate how you can work hybridly, with flexible working hours and the option to work partly from home on your internship assignment.
These are our conditions
This concerns an internship assignment and not a work experience placement. Before you begin the internship, we expect you to have an internship supervisor from your educational institution, with whom the internship has been coordinated and concrete learning objectives have been agreed upon.
This internship assignment is intended for students who are currently enrolled at an educational institution; graduates are not eligible.
