Make malfunctions visible before they become larger

Imagine: an engineer receives a malfunction report. Instead of driving directly to the customer, he can first see remotely what is happening.

A clear dashboard shows:

  • the current system status
  • malfunctions and alerts
  • important system components
  • information needed to make a diagnosis

The above is one example for engineers. For other target groups in the organization, such as sales, we need partially different dashboards.

Within Bosch, we manage safety solutions that must function in critical environments. With dashboards, we help our (service) organization to work faster, smarter, and more efficiently.

  • You are not building an ordinary report.
  • You make technical information usable for the people who have to work with it.

You will work together with experienced technical specialists and will be given the space to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn.

An internship at Bosch is also more than just an assignment. It is a first introduction to a professional knowledge organization.

Vacatureomschrijving

Your role: converting technical information into an overview

As an intern, you will develop an interactive cockpit for the remote monitoring of fire detection systems.

You investigate what engineers need, determine which information is relevant, and translate this into a dashboard that is quick to understand and easy to use.

You will work with:

  • technical data from systems
  • simulated or existing alerts
  • interfaces between systems
  • data display and visualization
  • user requirements and test results

You connect technology with ease of use.

Your project steps

1. Understanding what users need

  • Interviewing service engineers and other stakeholders
  • Determining which information is important
  • Investigating how users currently work
  • Describing and prioritizing functional requirements and wishes

2. Designing the dashboard

  • Creating sketches and screen designs
  • Distributing information across clear screens
  • Developing a simple prototype
  • Discussing the design with users

3. Building a working prototype

  • Developing an interactive dashboard environment
  • Sharing data via a connection or sample data
  • Applying suitable web technology or Power BI
  • Documenting technical choices made

4. Testing and improving

  • Testing with engineers
  • Processing their feedback
  • Improving the user experience
  • Describing how the dashboard can be further developed

You go through the entire process: from the first question to a working prototype.

The environment

You will work from our modern location in Nieuwegein.

During the assignment, you will collaborate with:

  • service engineers
  • project engineers
  • technical specialists
  • project leaders
  • future users of the dashboard

You will receive guidance from the technical side, but you will also get space to investigate choices yourself and make proposals.

You recognize yourself in this profile

You are following an MBO or HBO education in, for example:

  • ICT
  • Computer Science
  • Software Development
  • Technical Computer Science
  • UX/UI Design
  • You are curious about how systems work
  • You find programming or data interesting
  • You dare to ask questions to technical colleagues
  • You work independently and in a structured manner
  • You love building something from the ground up
  • You are a good listener and collaborator

Knowledge of, for example, Python, C#, web development, APIs, or data visualization such as PowerBI is nice, but not a requirement.

We find a good learning attitude more important than a perfect CV.

Why this is an internship assignment.

This assignment is suitable as a practical internship.

The assignment revolves around:

  • building a prototype
  • assisting in the development of a technical solution
  • gaining experience with users, technology, and testing

The assignment contains insufficient research and individual methodical depth to be used as an HBO graduation assignment without modification.

For an HBO graduation internship, the assignment can be expanded with research into, for example:

  • the future architecture
  • selection of monitoring technology
  • requirements regarding safety and privacy
  • comparison of technical design variants
  • strategy for implementation within the service organization

What Bosch offers you

  • A challenging internship at an international technology organization
  • Guidance by experienced engineers
  • Experience with real systems from critical environments
  • An assignment with visible results
  • An appropriate internship allowance
  • A modern workplace in Nieuwegein
  • The possibility to have your prototype actually used
