Medior Backend Engineer

We expect:

• At least 2 years of experience writing backend code

• Good knowledge of SQL and relational databases (such as MariaDB or Postgres)

• Experience with profiling, caching, and optimizing backend flows

• Experience with Git, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines

• Experience with GraphQL is a plus

• Basic knowledge of messaging and distributed systems (such as RabbitMQ) is a plus

• The ability to properly scope and estimate tickets, together with your team

• A pragmatic attitude towards legacy code and technical debt

At Gomibo, we build almost everything ourselves - from payments and logistics to repair flows and customer communication. As a Medior Backend Engineer (Software Engineer II), you will work on the core of these systems. You will develop and improve the backend in areas that matter, solve performance issues, and contribute to scalable and reliable systems.

You will work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and sometimes a designer. You will make technical decisions within your area of expertise, write maintainable code, and actively contribute to the direction of the team.

You work in a small and focused team - usually 5-6 engineers, a product manager, and a designer. Each team has responsibility for its own systems and works closely with other teams where necessary.

You work on systems that drive our platforms and processes daily. You build scalable solutions, contribute to architectural choices, and take the quality of our backend to a higher level.

Examples of what you will do:

• Building functionality in PHP - from idea to go-live

• Simplifying and improving legacy code

• Optimizing queries and making systems robust for edge cases

• Planning and estimating projects and tickets together with the team

• Reviewing merge requests, providing clear feedback, and helping colleagues when they get stuck

• Building asynchronous processes with RabbitMQ and Redis

• Thinking along about the technical roadmap and workflow improvements

Full-time | 32 - 40h/week | Head office Groningen

*You are able to work at the office in Groningen during your entire onboarding period. After that, we have a remote working policy of a maximum of 2 days per week. More days are possible in consultation.

You have previously written backend code that runs in production and are ready for the next step. You can build features independently, think in edge cases, and help others with technical considerations. You collaborate well, communicate clearly, and write robust code.
