The role

Do you want to develop into a broad tax advisor and work on diverse issues? As a Junior Tax Advisor, you will be part of the Tax department of Athora Netherlands. You will work in a tax-challenging environment at the intersection of pensions, insurance, investments, and international taxation.

What you'll do

Athora manages and invests substantial assets. As a result, you will deal with diverse investments, financial instruments, and international structures. Think of shares, bonds, investment funds, real estate, derivatives, and hybrid or subordinated financing instruments. You may also be involved in special projects, such as financing, reorganizations, buy-outs, and portfolio transfers.

You do not need to master all of this at your start. You will work closely with experienced colleagues within Tax, who will guide you and introduce you to the tax and financial backgrounds of the files. As your knowledge and experience grow, you will receive increasing space to take on subjects independently.

Your responsibilities include, among other things:

  • researching and analyzing Dutch and international corporate income tax issues;

  • the tax assessment of investments, financial instruments, financing, and international structures;

  • providing support on issues regarding the participation exemption, withholding tax, treaties, and cross-border transactions;

  • preparing tax advice, position papers, impact analyses, and decision notes;

  • translating legal, economic, and financial information into clear and practically applicable advice;

  • coordinating with colleagues from, among others, Investment Office, Finance, Legal, and Risk, as well as with external advisors and the Tax Authorities.

  • identifying new tax laws and regulations and mapping their impact for Athora;

  • Possibly supporting VAT and payroll tax issues and, depending on developments and your interests, other tax subjects.

For us, good tax advice does not stop at the technical conclusion. You also think along about the financial impact, the required data, and the processing in business and accounting processes. Additionally, you contribute to the Tax Control Framework, or TCF for short. You help to make tax risks, responsibilities, control measures, and follow-up transparent and demonstrable. In this way, you learn not only how to arrive at a tax position, but also how Athora remains in tax control.

Technology plays an increasingly large role in this. You use data, IT, and AI in a responsible manner during tax research, document analysis, knowledge management, and the preparation of advice. You remain critical of sources, outcomes, and confidentiality. You also think along about how we can organize our tax activities and information provision more smartly and efficiently using data and AI.

In this way, under the guidance of your colleagues, you will develop step by step into a broadly deployable tax advisor within the insurance and pension sector.

What do we ask of you?

For this junior position, we are primarily looking for a curious and analytically strong tax professional who wants to develop broadly. You do not need to be a specialist yet. A good tax foundation, eagerness to learn, initiative, and the willingness to fathom new subjects together with colleagues are most important to us.

Does the position and the opportunity to develop within this environment appeal to you? Then we would like to invite you to respond.
