Tax Internship

A&O Shearman is an international law firm with a strong position in the Dutch market. From our office in Amsterdam, we advise and litigate for listed and large unlisted companies, financial institutions, government agencies, and social organizations. We are an integral part of a global network and are known for our no-nonsense culture and our innovative approach to the law.

During your internship within our tax practice, you will be fully involved in the team from day one and will have the opportunity to gain real practical experience. We focus, among other things, on the tax aspects of M&A and real estate transactions, financing and derivatives, restructurings, and on tax proceedings. Additionally, we regularly speak on behalf of clients with the Tax Authorities regarding all sorts of topics. Our work thus covers all aspects of (inter)national tax law, with an emphasis on corporate income tax, dividend tax, transfer tax, VAT, and income and payroll tax.

You share an office with our lawyers, so you can always ask questions directly. You will also be paired with a buddy and a mentor. In this way, we guide you both substantively and personally. Furthermore, our lawyers in the tax practice work intensively with colleagues from other practice groups and other jurisdictions. As a result, the internship also offers insight into the multidisciplinary and international character of our firm.

We are looking for enthusiastic full-time student interns throughout the year. During this internship, you will work on ongoing files and experience all facets of taxation up close. You will be involved in, among other things, performing tax analyses, drafting memos, and conducting case law and literature research. Furthermore, you will attend internal and client meetings. This way, you will have a complete picture of the daily practice of a tax lawyer at A&O Shearman upon completion.

Selection procedure

Our procedure is fast and clear. The first step is a selection based on application documents. This is followed by an interview with Recruitment and an experienced employee. After a positive interview, an assessment follows consisting of three parts (including a development assessment).
