The role

How special is it to not only provide technical care to patients with various oncological conditions, but also to offer psychosocial support?

In this role as a Medium Care Nurse, you will work with patients whose vital functions must be closely monitored following technically complex surgery. Because our patients are usually awake, you get the chance to be truly meaningful by also offering a listening ear. That makes your work valuable and special.

What you'll do

  • You provide medium-complexity care to primarily postoperative oncological patients who are stable but require intensive care.

  • You monitor vital functions via monitoring without ventilation and can react quickly during emergency interventions.

  • You combine technical procedures and acute care with attention to the psychosocial well-being of patients and their loved ones.

  • You mostly work one-on-one or one-on-two, giving you the space to personally guide and support patients.

  • You think critically and have an important voice in multidisciplinary consultations regarding treatment proposals and care plans.

  • You get the opportunity to participate in working groups or clinical supervision, so that you continue to develop yourself.

Why the AVL?

At the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, we all commit to the same goal: the best care for every patient and every type of cancer. That is no small feat. But not impossible. Here, science and care work together on innovation. Time and again, we find new ways that help people with cancer worldwide. Here we save lives, we win time and quality.

Requirements

  • You have a degree in HBO Nursing or A-nursing, supplemented by a Medium Care specialization.

  • An oncology specialization is not required; you will develop that knowledge with us.

  • You are empathetic, stress-resistant, and have a positive and professional attitude.

  • You are eager to learn, open to change, and possess good self-reflection.

  • You are available between 16-36 hours per week and work with self-scheduling, giving you a lot of influence over your own workdays and times.

Are you interested, but don't have your specialization yet? Then take a look at our training opportunities.

What we offer you

The basis for your employment conditions is in accordance with the Cao Ziekenhuizen. You will receive from us:

  • A contract for an indefinite period;

  • A gross monthly salary between € 3,463 and € 4,914 (in accordance with CAO ziekenhuizen as of 1/8/2026) based on a 36-hour work week, corresponding to FWG 50 and depending on your experience;

  • 144 vacation hours and 57 hours of Personal Life Stage Budget, based on full-time employment;

  • An annual 8.33% holiday allowance and a fixed year-end bonus of 8.33%;

  • A travel allowance of € 0.23 per km;

  • Free parking at the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek, but with our bicycle scheme and discounts on public transport, we also make it attractive for you to leave the car behind;

  • A great opportunity in a specialized hospital where you can also continue to learn and grow if you wish: the AVL Academy offers innovative and inspiring education in the field of oncological expertise, skills, and personal development;

  • Opportunities to exercise at our Fit Boutiqs;

  • An active staff association and Young AVL: associations that organize sporting, cultural, and creative activities and events;

  • An employer contribution of 50% towards your pension at Pensioenfonds Zorg & Welzijn and collective discounts with health insurers IZZ, Zorg en Zekerheid, and Zilveren Kruis.
