How special is it that you can offer psychosocial support in addition to good technical care to patients with very diverse oncological disease profiles? The unique thing about our ICU is that patients are usually awake. They come to us after undergoing - often technically highly complex - surgery, which leaves their vital organs vulnerable. By also offering them a listening ear, you are truly meaningful. That gives us - your future colleagues - enormous satisfaction every single day.
As an ICU nurse:
You provide intensive care to surgical and medical oncological patients. Much of it is postoperative care, which means the average length of stay is relatively short.
You have the time to also provide emotional support to patients (and their loved ones). Often you are 1-on-1, sometimes 1-on-2. This gives you the space to ensure that people feel heard and seen.
You have a lot of autonomy and influence. For example, your (treatment) proposals are truly valued during multidisciplinary consultations with doctors.
You get the chance to participate in working groups where you and your colleagues focus on areas of interest such as infection prevention, ventilation, circulation, or the green ICU. Or, for example, alongside your work as an ICU nurse, you can become a clinical instructor.
You have input into your schedule since we work with 'self-scheduling'. Wherever possible, we take your shift preferences into account, so that you can maintain a good work-life balance.
Welcome to our ICU! We, about 30 nurses, would love to welcome you. How do we experience our workplace? As a medical center with an enormous impact - groundbreaking cancer research is conducted here and technically highly complex care is provided - and a convivial atmosphere like in a small hospital. We are a close-knit group with loyal colleagues. Even though we deal daily with patients being treated for severe illness, there is also room for lightheartedness with us. During breaks, and for example during our team outings. Want to know more? Watch our department video and get to know your future colleagues and the film for our patients.
You can empathize well with patients and reassure them. With your positive attitude, you give them confidence in a good outcome. Additionally, you keep a cool head in stressful situations. Moreover, you are open to changes, for example in work processes, you possess good self-reflection, and you want to continue learning constantly. Furthermore, you have:
A degree in HBO-nursing or A-nursing, supplemented by a specialization in intensive care. A specialization in oncology is not required; you will learn everything about that with us!
Don't have any of these diplomas yet? Then check out our ICU nurse in training vacancy.
We are curious about your talent. Will you be the one to make a difference in the world of cancer? Apply quickly via the application button!
