Skills

VDK Groep B.V. is hiring for this role in several places. This vacancy is in the Netherlands.

This job advert was originally written in Dutch.

The role

Are you a service professional who looks beyond just fixing malfunctions? A technical expert who gets energy from applying knowledge, preventing problems, and acting as a go-to person for our colleagues? Then the role of Utility Service Specialist with us is truly for you. In this position, you will work on challenging and complex installations at various locations—from courthouses to swimming pools. You move smoothly between technology, customers, and colleagues, and with your expertise, you are the one who truly makes the difference.

What you'll do

As a Utility Service Specialist, you are the expert who not only solves malfunctions but also prevents them. You work with complex systems such as air handling units, heat pumps, HVAC installations, fans, and control technology. You see through malfunctions with multiple causes, recognize patterns, and know exactly which steps are needed to keep installations running reliably and efficiently. Reports come in via our Building Automation department. Sometimes malfunctions can be solved remotely, but when that is not possible, you go there. There, you ask the right questions, connect your laptop to the control technology, and make a clear diagnosis. Thanks to your technical insight, you tackle malfunctions decisively, whether it involves calibrating sensors, adjusting hydraulic circuits, replacing appendages, or reprogramming the control technology. Because your van is well stocked with the right materials, you can often act immediately. If a part is needed that you do not have with you, it will be ready within 24 hours. And when specific expertise is required, you ensure good coordination and monitor the quality of the work.

Your role goes beyond technology alone. You are a go-to person for colleagues, someone they can rely on. When a Service Technician gets stuck at a customer, you step in. You think along, provide advice, and guide them through complex technical issues. In doing so, you are not only an expert but also a mentor. You create an open and educational work atmosphere in which colleagues can grow thanks to your knowledge. In acute situations, you act quickly and effectively, always with the collective goal of reaching the best solution. Due to your professional maturity, you can not only solve problems independently but also help others to reach that same level.

In short

With us, you will find:

  • A gross salary between €3,391 and €4,524 per month.

  • Extra good reward: once every 9 weeks, you have a week of on-call service. Our malfunctions can be counted on one hand annually. Still, you are guaranteed €165 per week and compensation of 128% to 184% for overtime.

  • The opportunity to take on the role of expert and share your knowledge. Are you already an expert or would you like to become one? We would love to provide you with the stage for this!

  • A great team that stands ready for one another. With us, you work within a large professional organization, but feel the warmth of a small, close-knit company.

  • Working with top tools, comfortable workwear, and a well-equipped van. With us, everything is well organized!

What makes this role so unique?

That is undoubtedly the versatility, says colleague Leon: "You move continuously between technology, customer contact, and collaboration with colleagues. You do much more than solving complex malfunctions. You actively think along with customers about the maintenance and use of installations, keep an eye on when parts are due for replacement, and are given the space to—within a certain amount—independently take on and execute additional work. On average, I spend three days a week on maintenance and malfunctions, and two days on additional work resulting from maintenance. What makes it completely complete for me? That I am allowed to guide colleagues and share my knowledge with them, which allows them to help customers well and develop themselves. That makes this work truly special."

For one another!

With us, you don't just work for a company—you work for a family-like company. You notice that in everything. The atmosphere is professional, convivial, and familiar. "The processes, materials, work clothing, and means of transport are always well organized. Additionally, we take responsibility, we know each other, and we help each other. Or, as we say ourselves: we are there 'for one another'". You notice this supportive attitude not only in interacting with each other but also in the work. "Because we are there for one another, we can deliver quality and ensure a pleasant working atmosphere—with room for a healthy dose of humor and conviviality. From day one, you feel at home at Van Dam Groep, thanks in part to the personal attention from both colleagues and management. It truly feels like a family business," says Leon and William.

Moreover, an entrepreneurial mentality prevails: we like to roll up our sleeves. You get the freedom here to make mistakes and learn from them. We actively think along with your development and value talent. Or as colleague Egbert puts it beautifully: "I once started as a Service Technician. Thanks to the growth opportunities within Van Dam Groep, I now fulfill the role of Utility Team Leader. In short: much is possible within our company."
