What we're looking for

You have previously set up or matured a data platform, preferably in a scale-up. You are technically deep, but you think from the perspective of your users: an analyst who cannot find or does not trust a table is, to you, a platform problem. You explain trade-offs to both management and developers.

You are pragmatic, curious about how AI is changing the profession, and you derive energy from helping others grow.

8+ years of experience in data, of which at least 2 years as a lead of a team or platform.
Hands-on experience in the entire chain: a cloud data platform and pipelines, and SQL, dbt, and Python in production.
Databricks in production (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog), preferably on Azure.
Terraform or other infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD with GitHub.
Dimensional modeling, a semantic layer, and data governance in practice.
Practical experience with AI tools in data development or with data for AI applications.
Involving stakeholders up to executive level in a roadmap.
English at a professional level; Dutch is a plus.
Willing to undergo a Dutch security screening (VGB).

Nice to have

Nice to have: a warehouse migration, data contracts, B2B SaaS or edtech, regulated or public environments.

The role

Studytube makes professional development accessible. Customers want to see what their learning delivers, the business wants to steer based on accurate figures, and our AI ambitions live or die by good data. That is why we are looking for a Data Platform Lead to build the foundation that the entire Studytube operation runs on.

What you'll do

At Studytube, data works as a hub-and-spoke model. You lead the hub: the shared data platform within Engineering, including infrastructure, pipelines, the lakehouse, and the shared data models. The spokes are located in the business, from finance and product to Customer Success and GTM. They build the analyses and dashboards; you ensure that the underlying data is correct, findable, and evolves alongside the product.

You report to the Head of Engineering and lead the data engineer. In the long term, we will expand the team with an analytics engineer. You are a player-coach: you set the course and contribute to the building yourself.

You are the owner of the data platform and the architecture, and you develop the roadmap together with the spokes.
You ensure one version of the truth. The spokes determine what an active learner is; you ensure that definition is built once and delivers the same number everywhere.
You build the platform as a product: self-service, documentation, and clear agreements, so that analysts can progress independently.
You lay the data foundation for AI, for product features, and for internal applications on company data. Your team will build faster themselves using AI tools.
You take over the Databricks platform from an external party, including a high-security environment, and contribute ideas regarding the future of our stack.
You set up governance within the platform: access, data quality, lineage, retention, and deletion, GDPR-proof.
You weigh requests from the spokes against each other and explain your choices, even when the answer is no.
You coach the team, assist in recruitment for the expansion, and spread knowledge so that nothing depends on a single person.
