The role

Impact at the intersection of business and technology.

The role

At Schuberg Philis, we work differently than most IT organizations. We deliver mission-critical IT with multidisciplinary, self-managing teams that carry full Plan-Build-Run responsibility. No handover moments, no standard blueprints, but experts who together take end-to-end responsibility for continuity, security, and real business value.

The Customer Director Consulting Insurance & Pensions is the strategic C-level partner who bridges the gap between boardroom strategy and mission-critical solutions that demonstrably create value in the insurance and pensions sector. You move effortlessly in the world of GWP, COR, Solvency ratio, TCO, and CSM, and know how to translate these metrics into concrete opportunities for improvement at the intersection of efficiency, resilience, and revenue.

You engage in dialogue with executives, board members, and senior management at insurers and pension providers. In the early stages of an engagement - from initial exploration to proof of value - you forge the connection between their strategic agenda (for example DORA, AI adoption, legacy modernization, operational resilience) and the propositions of Schuberg Philis in the areas of cloud, data & AI, software, and security. You help them resolve paradoxes: not either lowering costs or increasing quality, but both more efficient, both more resilient, and both a better result for customers and participants.

For many Senior Managers, Directors, and experienced Business/Technology Consultants from the insurance and pensions sector, this is the perfect combination: substantive depth, strategic business issues, sector-specific metrics and regulations, and real impact at C-level, without having to become a full-time commercial or people manager. Here, it is about craftsmanship, ownership, and building solutions that truly matter - for customers, their policyholders and participants, and for the Netherlands.

You receive the autonomy that is often lacking in large corporates: direct customer relationships, short lines of communication, few internal layers, and the freedom to determine your own agenda and approach. You are a full-fledged sparring partner for CIOs, COOs, CDOs, CROs, and CFROs in the sector, and at the same time a hands-on leader in our customer teams: you have one foot in the boardroom and the other in the practice of our engineers.

Your domain focus

You focus on insurers (property & casualty, life, health) and pension providers in the Netherlands - with a specific focus on parties where efficiency, AI, and resilience are high on the agenda due to heavy regulatory and cost pressures. Think of themes such as:

  • Operational efficiency: lowering TCO, improving COR, modernizing legacy platforms, and rationalizing the IT landscape.

  • Resilience & compliance: DORA, AI Act, cyber resilience

  • Data & AI: fact-based decision-making, the use of AI for claims, pricing, fraud detection, and customer interaction, and actually realizing business value instead of just a pilot.

  • Pensions transition: administrative and IT challenges surrounding the new pension system, TCO management in a complex, regulated environment, and transparent communication towards participants.

You understand the dynamics of a highly concentrated market with a few large players, complex distribution chains (intermediary, direct, bancassurance, managing general agents, pension providers), and stringent regulatory requirements. You are able to translate strategic choices from the board - regarding growth, consolidation, digitalization, and risk management - into roadmaps and concrete engagements in which the propositions of Schuberg Philis contribute directly to their operating result.

What you will do

  • You conduct in-depth conversations with C-level and Senior management at insurers and pension providers to sharpen their strategic priorities, KPIs, and pain points.

  • You analyze the (technical and business) context of the market, the organization, and their IT landscape, including legacy, governance, risks, and opportunities for AI and automation.

  • You create insights into the key needs of clients and their policyholders/participants, and translate these into concrete business cases and value scenarios (e.g., impact on COR, TCO, Solvency ratio)

  • You make the translation from boardroom strategy to (innovative) mission-critical technology solutions, in close collaboration with Customer Directors, Tech Leads, Architects, and engineers.

  • You initiate and guide early-stage engagements such as assessments, design sprints, proof of value, and exploratory data and AI trajectories, applying "show, don't tell": no loose slides, but working demonstrators and tangible results.

  • You position and connect the full Schuberg proposition - cloud, software, data & AI, and security - around the business objectives of the customer, so that we deliver value on the three axes: efficiency, resilience, and revenue.

  • You act as a trusted advisor in complex decision-making processes, help stakeholders find alignment, and guide organizations in making choices with impact over multiple years.

What you bring

  • You have extensive experience (>10 years) as an (IT) Business/Management Consultant, strategic advisor, or similar role in or around the insurance and/or pensions sector. You know the business from the inside out: products, chains, distribution, regulation, and the specific metrics of the sector.

  • You have a demonstrable affinity with cloud technology, software development, data & AI, and security, and know how to position these technologies as business enablers - not as an end in themselves.

  • You are substantively and analytically strong (both quantitatively and qualitatively) and able to reduce complex issues to clear choices and substantiated business cases for C-level.

  • You have experience in designing and guiding early-stage engagements (assessments, PoVs, workshops, design sprints) and know how to build sustainable, long-term collaborations from these entry points.

  • You have a strong network in the insurance and/or pensions sector (for example, with health insurers, property & casualty and life insurers, pension providers, and relevant industry organizations) and feel at home in boardrooms, regulatory bodies, and strategic consultations.

  • You have experience with stakeholder management at CxO and Senior management level and can bring together different interests, risk assessments, and perspectives.

  • You are a self-starter, entrepreneurial, and inspiring. You take responsibility, actively seek collaboration with colleagues and customers, and know how to create momentum - even when there is no crystallized issue or project yet.

  • You master both the Dutch and English languages at a high level, in speech and writing, and feel comfortable in formal board presentations as well as informal strategy discussions.

If you get energy from C-level conversations, connecting sector strategy with mission-critical technology, accelerating innovation, and building sustainable value in a highly regulated, critical sector, then we would love to meet you. You help insurers and pension providers create value on efficiency, resilience, and revenue without compromise - exactly where it matters most.

Everyone we work with and consider working with has a right to equal treatment. The hiring and appraisal process at Schuberg Philis is designed to be thorough and equitable, implementing fair payment, benefits, and opportunities across all demographics.

It is our desire to be a company that brings together multiple nationalities, cultures, religions, genders, abilities, and talents within and across our teams. We welcome colleagues from diverse backgrounds to join Schuberg Philis and actively support diversity and inclusion in the tech industry.
