Pipelay Tensioner Chain Internship

Royal IHC develops and supplies advanced pipelay systems for offshore applications, such as on pipe-laying vessels like the Seven Vega and SSB. An important part of these systems are the pipelay tensioners, which bring pipelines controlled to the seabed.

The chains for these tensioners are currently being sourced externally. They do not meet high customer requirements, are unsuitable for low temperatures, offer little material choice, and cannot be optimally adapted to the pads.

• Better meet customer requirements
• Guarantee suitability for low-temperature areas
• Offer more flexibility in material choice and shape optimization

• Research material specifications and design requirements for chains in both regular and low-temperature areas
• Develop a concept design for a new chain
• Work together with product development, who will guide you in the assignment. Additionally, you will be in contact with the mechanical department and the sales department, which serves as a sounding board for customers. In short: you will gain experience in a dynamic environment with many opportunities.

• You are pursuing a HBO or WO degree in the field of Mechanical Engineering
• You have an interest in material technology and design optimization
• Experience with 3D CAD packages and mechanical design is a plus
• You are analytical, independent, and possess strong communication skills.
