The role
Who are you?
Based on the Media Act, every public broadcaster has a Media Council. A Media Council is representative of the population of the province and determines the media content policy of the regional broadcaster. The Media Council supervises the broadcaster to ensure that the programming policy is implemented correctly. The Media Council consists of 13 members, including a chairperson. The composition of the council is representative of the most important social, cultural, and religious movements within Gelderland society.
As a member of the Media Council, you live in Gelderland and are interested in what is happening in your province. You have an interest in media and understand its importance for our province. As a person, you are curious, do not shy away from discussion when conducted with respect, and are decisive. You are socially skilled, make contacts easily, and have a network. Furthermore, you recognize the public character of Omroep Gelderland and are socially engaged. The Media Council is looking for three members with enthusiasm for media and the province.
The following profiles are not yet represented in the Media Council:
● Rural areas
● Nature and environment
● Tourism and recreation
● Religion/Belief systems
● People with disabilities
● Employees
However, the Media Council also welcomes being surprised by enthusiastic residents of Gelderland with other areas of expertise.
What do we offer?
This position is unpaid. Per meeting, a gross allowance of € 160 is granted, along with a travel allowance for commuting of € 0.23 per km.
You recognize yourself in this:
You have a relevant background and (work) experience that makes you a subject matter expert within your movement, and you know how to articulate that knowledge and experience well within the Media Council. It is important that you are easily approachable, genuinely interested, and up to date on recent developments in the province. And of course, you want to invest time and attention into a team of Gelderlanders that together forms a critical and engaged sounding board for Omroep Gelderland. If you actively follow the journalistic stories, programs, and channels of Omroep Gelderland, you fit this position perfectly. But of course, you can also start from scratch with that.
What is expected of you?
The Media Council meets three to four times a year to discuss the media content policy and assesses whether the broadcaster's offerings align with developments in society. Therefore, you must be able to evaluate policy documents on their content. The editorial management is also present during the consultation.
Diversity and inclusion
Omroep Gelderland strives for an inclusive organization in which everyone feels safe and at home, regardless of origin, gender, sexual orientation, religion, age, or socio-economic background. Therefore, we invite everyone who recognizes themselves in the above profiles to apply.
