The role

Do you know how to make journalistic stories clear and visually appealing for social platforms to reach young people? Then you are the new NOS Stories designer our design team is looking for!

What you'll do

Daily and weekly productions at an online newsroom

As one of the designers for NOS Stories, you are part of this newsroom which is focused on a younger audience (13 to 19 years old). You work together with editors and other designers on large and small news designs that are relevant to young people. Your workplace is right in the middle of the newsroom, where it all happens. Your perspective, creativity, and way of thinking make the news from NOS Stories more interesting, accessible, and relevant for a wide youth audience.

You devise the visualizations for productions. You often do this together with an editor. You create a realistic schedule, because news always has a deadline. Ranging from one hour to one week. With a good and concrete plan in hand, you get to work creating illustrations and motion graphics and work towards publication. You often work on multiple large and small design assignments simultaneously, because the news never stops.

The goal at NOS Stories is to bring the news to life for the target group. So, you don't just create the graphic layer in a video, but you are also often on set working together with the presenters, camera, and lighting crew to direct during recordings, so that concept, graphics, and animations later go well with the imagery. The overarching (visual) concept is therefore an important part and task of the designers at NOS Stories.

Innovation and long-term development in the design team

Designers work at various newsrooms within NOS News, working on productions for television and online. Together, this group of twelve designers and a creative developer forms the design team, led by Head of Design Sterre Sprengers.
Regularly, you exchange experiences and inspiration, and discuss each other's work. And we do team outings, of course.

How you'll work

(Hilversum | 32-36 upw | cao-contract | salary max. €5,056)

Nice to meet you

At the NOS, you are immediately part of one of the largest news organizations in the Netherlands. We are there always and everywhere: via the app and website, socials, TV broadcasts, teletext, and radio bulletins. With our news, we reach millions of Dutch people every day.

In the NOS design team, there are designers working across various NOS newsrooms. They create videos, (info)graphics, animations, specials, and other visualizations for the news. These stories appear in the app, on web and social, and can also be used in the NOS news bulletins.

What you will do

  • This production is the result of extensive investigative journalism: Doctors in shock: girls sent to Spain for INTENSE abdominal surgeries.

  • For our annual series Eindexamenspreekuren, we always set up the set ourselves.

  • In this series of shorts about brand clothing (these, these, and these), you can see how concept, set, camerawork, and graphics are developed in cohesion.

  • This video about 9/11 is a good example of how the NOS Stories house style comes together in post-production and graphics.

  • And weekly we do the Conversation with the Prime Minister, entirely in NOS Stories style and approach.
