What we're looking for

  • Education: You have completed a HBO or WO degree, preferably in Design, Interaction Design, Service Design, Communication & Multimedia Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a similar field.
  • Experience: You have at least 6 years of relevant work experience, a significant portion of which is in a consultancy, agency, or advisory context. This means you have not worked exclusively in-house. You know the difference between a client relationship and an assignment, and you know what it takes to be successful in both.
  • Languages: You speak and write excellent Dutch and English.

The role

You don't have to choose between thinking and making. You do both.

As a Senior Experience Design Consultant at Sopra Steria, you will work on complex issues where strategy, service design, and UX converge. Sometimes your assignment begins at the front end: sharpening a client request, involving stakeholders, creating a service blueprint, or facilitating a co-creation session with management or directors. Sometimes it begins much more concretely: with UX flows, prototypes, screens, or improvements within an existing client environment.

For you, these are not contradictions. You understand that strategic impact in consultancy often arises by first building trust in practice. You can advise at a high level, but are also willing to perform design work yourself when the assignment calls for it.

You don't automatically start with a screen. You start with the question behind the question. But if good UX design is needed to deliver value, then you approach that with equal professionalism.

About the role
We are looking for a senior designer with consultancy experience. Someone who is strong in UX design, service design, and guiding clients within complex organizations. You sense when a client request is larger than the original assignment and know how to make that discussable in a natural, substantive way.

You are not a pure strategist who only wants to facilitate workshops. And you are also not a pure UX designer who only wants to create deliverables. You are a hybrid design consultant who can switch between analysis, advice, design, and execution.

At Sopra Steria, we work on digital transformations within large organizations, often within public and semi-public environments. In this context, design is not an afterthought, but a way to make better choices: for users, organizations, and the services they provide.

What you'll do

  • You work on diverse assignments, from strategic design trajectories to UX design within complex client environments.
  • You help clients sharpen the real question behind the assignment: what is the problem, for whom, and where is the value?
  • You conduct research, analyze user and stakeholder insights, and translate these into concrete design choices.
  • You create journey maps, service blueprints, design principles, concepts, prototypes, and UX deliverables.
  • You design and facilitate workshops, co-creation sessions, and stakeholder meetings.
  • You advise clients on where design can add strategic value, even if that is not yet explicitly in the assignment.
  • You collaborate with strategists, technologists, business consultants, and client teams in multidisciplinary environments.
  • You recognize opportunities to deepen or broaden an existing client request and help make them discussable in a substantive way.
  • You contribute to the further development of our design practice, our methods, and our thought leadership.

Who you are
You are an experienced designer who is firmly grounded in the profession and understands how consultancy works. You know that you build credibility with clients by delivering, listening well, asking sharp questions, and advising at the right moment.

You feel comfortable in environments where not everything is clear yet. You can handle different interests, political dynamics, and changing client requests. You know when to slow down to understand the problem properly, and when to speed up to make something tangible.

You are senior enough to operate independently with clients, but practical enough to perform design work yourself.

You have experience with

  • UX design: from user insight to flows, wireframes, prototypes, and concrete improvements.
  • Service design: journey mapping, service blueprinting, stakeholder analysis, and designing end-to-end experiences.
  • User research: qualitative research, interviews, observations, synthesis, and translating insights into design choices.
  • Facilitation: designing and guiding workshops, co-creation sessions, and decision-making sessions.
  • Consultancy: question articulation, stakeholder management, advising under uncertainty, and working in complex client environments.
  • Strategic design: connecting client requests, organizational goals, user needs, and design principles.
  • Commercial sensitivity: you see when a client request is larger than the original assignment and know how to make it discussable in a substantive and credible way.

Experience within public or semi-public organizations is a clear advantage. UI design is not your primary focus, but you know the tools of your trade and can collaborate well with UI specialists, developers, and product teams.

Aanvullende informatie

What you can expect
You will become part of a growing design practice within Sopra Steria. A team of approximately twenty designers with expertise in strategic design, service design, UX design, user research, and UI design.

We work on issues where technology, organizational change, and human experience converge. Often with large and complex organizations, regularly within the public sector. Our ambition is to deploy design earlier, more strategically, and more visibly within digital transformation.

You will be given space to build client relationships, think along about our design approach, and contribute to knowledge sharing, propositions, and team development. You will work with colleagues who combine professional depth with the ambition to position design more strongly within consultancy.

This role is a good fit for you if

  • you enjoy switching between strategy and execution;
  • you take UX design seriously, but look beyond screens;
  • you want to apply service design and strategic thinking in real client contexts;
  • you get energy from complex organizations and issues without ready-made answers;
  • you understand consultancy and know that impact often arises by first building trust;
  • you dare to challenge clients, but always from a substantive and collaborative standpoint;
  • you want to contribute to the growth of a design practice within a larger consultancy organization.

This role is less of a fit for you if
You exclusively want to do strategic trajectories and no longer want to do concrete UX work. Or if you are looking specifically for UX production work without interest in service design, stakeholder facilitation, or consultancy. We are looking for someone who consciously wants to move between both worlds.

At Sopra Steria, we combine consulting, technology, AI, and change. We work with attention to public values and digital sovereignty. You will be given space to do your work in a way that suits you. You will become part of the Next Industry vertical and make use of our broad Dutch and European network.

Our employment conditions are generous and balanced:

  • A permanent contract and a salary between €4,000 and €5,500 gross per month (based on 40 hours per week). The exact scaling depends on your experience and level.
  • Holiday allowance of 8%;
  • A generous mobility budget, in the form of a lease arrangement of €1,102 with a choice between an electric lease car with NS Business Card or a lease bike, or an alternative transport arrangement of €1,007, whatever best fits your way of traveling;
  • Profit sharing of 8% on target;
  • 27 paid vacation days;
  • Home office with laptop, phone, and a monthly internet allowance;
  • Hybrid working: at home or in the office, depending on what you need;
  • Development opportunities via training, knowledge-sharing sessions, and inspiring (networking) events;
  • Social activities with colleagues – from cozy drinks to sporty or professional outings;
  • A flexible pension scheme, to which you can add contributions tailored to and appropriate for you;
  • The possibility to participate in the collective health insurance.

Does this job seem like something for you? Are you ready to shape the world with us? Fantastic! We are already looking forward to your application.
