  • Affinity with production processes and the application of data to improve performance.

The role

The origins of JDE Peet's date back to 1753, when Egbert Douwes and his wife Akke Thijsses opened their grocery store De Witte Os in Joure. They sold coffee and tea, among other things, laying the foundation for the Douwe Egberts brand. From these Dutch origins, we have grown into an international coffee and tea organization, JDE Peet's, with well-known brands such as Douwe Egberts, L’OR, Jacobs, and Pickwick. Our products are available in more than 100 markets worldwide.

Joure still holds an important position within our organization. It is home to two of our most important production sites, where we produce coffee and tea daily. Within these factories, various disciplines work together towards safe, high-quality, and efficient production. Continuous improvement is central: by analyzing our processes and effectively utilizing data, we seek opportunities to further optimize production performance. From February 2027, we are looking for a graduation student who can make an important contribution to this.

What you'll do

From February 2027, we are looking for a graduation student who can make an important contribution to analyzing data to gain insight into the performance of our packaging lines. Production frequently switches between different products and tea blends. These changes require adjustments to the production lines and can influence, among other things, changeover times, line speed, and production efficiency.

During this graduation assignment, you will investigate how product changes and product characteristics relate to the performance of our packaging lines in the tea factory. You will analyze production, machine, and planning data to gain insight into the factors influencing performance and where opportunities lie to improve processes, while maintaining product quality and service.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Analyzing production data and comparing performance during different product changes;
  • Investigating changeover times, line speeds, downtime, and production efficiency;
  • Identifying patterns and correlations between product characteristics and production results;
  • Visualizing data and results, for example using Power BI.
  • Formulating substantiated recommendations to improve the performance of the packaging lines.

You will work together with colleagues within Operations and other involved disciplines. In doing so, you will gain insight into the daily production processes and the role of data in operational decision-making. You will translate your research results into concrete insights that can contribute to targeted improvements in the factory. You will then present these to stakeholders on the shop floor and in management.

The central research question is: "To what extent do product changeovers and product properties influence the performance of our packaging lines, and what opportunities are there to improve this without making concessions on quality and service?"

Functie-eisen

You are pursuing a HBO (university of applied sciences) or WO (research university) degree and are looking for a graduation assignment where data analysis and process optimization converge. Fields of study such as Data Science, Industrial Engineering & Management, Business Analytics, Supply Chain Management, or Operations Management align well with this assignment.

You bring the following:
