  • experience with textual copy editing (preferably in journalism)

  • room to develop, both in your position and online via our DPG Academy/DPG Campus;

  • the possibility to coordinate your own cultural holidays.

The role

Are you a copy editor who makes texts more accessible and substantively stronger? Do you find language errors with ease and can you correct them quickly? Then NU.nl has a great place for you.

Due to parental leave, we are looking for an experienced copy editor. This concerns a full-time contract starting in January with a duration of seven months.

What you'll do

NU.nl wants to deliver the news quickly and error-free. As a copy editor, you will primarily remove language and typing errors from our texts before publication. Additionally, you will improve the structure of sentences and paragraphs. You will edit not only news reports, but also explanatory stories, interviews, (live) blogs, and texts for videos and social media.

We want to reach as wide an audience as possible with accessible texts, and you will contribute to that. Every day, you will look after dozens of articles, videos, and social media posts.

Because you edit texts from all our sub-editorials, you need broad knowledge and interest. Furthermore, you are able to ask sharp journalistic questions about the texts you review. Where possible, you will provide feedback to our reporters and editors.

You will do this 38 hours per week. You will also regularly work in the evenings and on weekends. The earliest shift begins at 6:30 AM and the last shift ends at 11:00 PM. Working from home is possible, but we would like to see you at our editorial office in Amsterdam at least three times a week.

Furthermore, you are someone who

  • is good at language;

  • can work quickly and under time pressure;

  • is structured, careful, and flexible;

  • can create attractive news headlines and intros;

  • can communicate well;

  • likes to answer language questions;

  • feels at home with our neutral tone and factual journalism.
