What you'll do

Together with your fellow senior editors, you are responsible for the journalistic content of NOS Stories. You determine which stories and videos we make, which angles we choose, and how we translate news and social issues for a young audience. You lead editorial meetings and actively seek collaboration with other NOS editorial departments.

No day is the same. You constantly switch between small and large stories, make quick and careful decisions, help people at your desk, and serve as the point of contact for the editorial team.

You focus not only on the content but also have an eye for the people you work with. You guide young editors in their professional development, provide constructive feedback, and ensure they can do their work well and get the best out of themselves.

Naturally, you ensure that all productions have the quality expected of the NOS and align with the tone, language, and format of NOS Stories.

Working at NOS Stories is challenging and interesting. No day is the same; our target audience surprises us every time with their questions and observations. In our drive to make the news accessible, we challenge ourselves to create the best stories in an accessible and creative form.

How you'll work

As a senior editor, you will be part of our team of three senior editors. You will work mainly during the week and approximately once a month on the weekend. Depending on your shift, you will start between 07:30 and 09:30.

Nice to meet you

At the NOS, you are immediately part of one of the largest news organizations in the Netherlands. We reach millions of Dutch people every day with our news. We are there 24 hours a day and 365 days a year for everyone on all conceivable platforms: from television to Instagram, from YouTube to radio, from Teletext to Facebook, from NOS.nl and the NOS app to TikTok.

The NOS Stories editorial team is an important part of this:

Daily, about ten people work on the news stories for our target audience - young people between 13 and 19 years old. We want them to understand the news and be able to join the conversation about what is happening in the world. Our motto: we don't talk about, but always talk with our target audience. We do this on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram , on the street and in the classroom. We are a young and diverse team of (senior) editors and designers. Driven and passionate, with an eye for one another.

Why would you choose a career at the NOS? Because we are an inspiring workplace where your contribution makes a difference! Working at the NOS is interesting, socially relevant, and also a lot of fun.

  • On top of that, you will receive a €52 gross contribution toward your health insurance, 8% holiday allowance, 6% end-of-year bonus, and annual periodic growth.

  • A one-year contract for 32-36 hours per week, with the intention to extend it, if it suits both you and us.

Why we love working here

Professional and informal atmosphere
Everyone at the NOS is crazy about their profession. And we love to talk about it. Feel free to do the same about your specialty. The informal and open atmosphere provides you with all the space for that.

Going for the best together
Delivering quality is standard at the NOS. Not only from our mission, but also from a sincere passion for the profession. Because top can always be even better, you are open to feedback. Do you grow together with your colleagues?

Teamwork out of conviction
At the NOS, you work with extremely enthusiastic colleagues. That enthusiasm also includes intensive and eager collaboration. In fact, you help each other and you learn from each other.

Develop yourself however you want
At the NOS, you have all the space to learn and do new things. Ideas? Share them and get to work! This is also called: plenty of opportunities to develop yourself. But really.

Who you are

You know your way around the world of news and lead the team in journalistic choices. Preferably, you already have some experience as a senior editor. You play a major role in creating a story. You help editors on their way by finding speakers, visuals, and sources. In doing so, you are clear about deadlines and frameworks, so that everyone knows what is expected. You make many choices, argue them clearly, and provide constant feedback.

At the same time, you give people the space and confidence to get to work themselves. As a senior editor of NOS Stories, you can handle pressure and meet deadlines.

What you bring

  • At least 5 years of experience as an editor or researcher, preferably at a news organization. Some experience as a senior editor is a plus, but not a hard requirement.

  • You recognize news before it becomes news and know what is needed to translate observations and trends (on social) into a journalistic story.

  • You enjoy taking a young editorial team under your wing.

  • You have an inclusive way of leading. You are open to different pitches and perspectives, even if these differ from your own frame of reference. You are also aware of your own blind spots and approach editors with an open attitude.

  • You enjoy contributing to a pleasant mutual collaboration.

Should you not meet all the points yet, but you see a connection and want to develop yourself in this, please let us know anyway.

We believe it is important that our team is diversely composed and has an eye for different sides of the news.
