The role

Senior Compensation & Benefits Specialist

At De Brauw

De Brauw is a leading Dutch law firm with a strong international practice. We work on matters that matter - in Amsterdam and far beyond. This demands a lot from our people. That is why we invest not only in top-tier legal quality, but just as emphatically in a thoughtful compensation and benefits policy that supports our ambitions, does justice to different roles and career stages, and contributes to a sustainable and future-proof organization.

About the role

As a Senior Compensation & Benefits Specialist you will play a central role in developing, implementing, and further professionalizing De Brauw's compensation policy. You will operate at the intersection of strategy, policy, and execution, translating market developments and organizational objectives into well-founded, future-proof compensation & benefits solutions.

You operate independently, but emphatically not as a soloist. You interface intensively with HR, Finance, and the Board, and act as a substantive sparring partner at a senior level. Additionally, together with the CHRO, you are closely involved with the Works Council (OR) and act as the point of contact for the OR regarding compensation and employment conditions. You report directly to the CHRO.

The role requires substantive sharpness, analytical ability, and organizational sensitivity: you know how to fathom complex issues, carefully weigh interests, and arrive at clear, well-defensible proposals.

What will you do?

You are responsible for further shaping and communicating the compensation & benefits agenda within De Brauw. In doing so, you combine strategic insight with tactical elaboration and careful implementation.

You:

  • Develops and updates the compensation and benefits policy, secondary employment conditions, and pension.
  • Analyzes external market developments, benchmarks, and internal data and translates these into concrete policy proposals and decision-making scenarios.
  • Advises the Board and other stakeholders on compensation issues and their impact on the organization, costs, and culture.
  • Acts, together with the CHRO, as the point of contact for the Works Council (OR) and prepares substantive and procedural consent and advisory processes.
  • Initiates and leads compensation projects, from design to implementation and safeguarding within the organization.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations, tax frameworks, and internal governance agreements.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert and sparring partner for HR colleagues and actively contributes to knowledge building and professionalization within the HR team.

You work proactively: you signal developments before they become urgent and come up with well-founded proposals that align with De Brauw's strategy, culture, and positioning.

Who are you?

We are looking for an experienced and substantively strong professional who can think strategically while maintaining an eye for careful execution. You are analytically sharp, a strong communicator, and know how to convey complex subject matter clearly and with administrative sensitivity.

Furthermore, you possess:

  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience in compensation & benefits within a complex, knowledge-intensive organization.
  • Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing compensation policies at a strategic and tactical level.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with benchmarking, financial impact analyses, and data-driven decision-making.
  • Sound knowledge of Dutch labor law and relevant tax frameworks.
  • Experience with stakeholder management at a senior level, preferably within a partnership structure.
  • Experience with or demonstrable affinity for Works Council (OR) processes and employee participation processes.
  • An independent, proactive working attitude and the ability to clearly distinguish between essential and non-essential matters.
  • Excellent command of Dutch and English.

What do we offer you?

De Brauw is an independent, international legal service provider with a strong reputation in complex and strategic dossiers. This also demands professionalism, diligence, and forward-thinking internally.

With us, you get:

  • A role with visible impact at an organizational level.
  • Substantive autonomy and room to provide direction to strategic compensation themes.
  • Collaboration with highly educated professionals in an ambitious and collegial environment.
  • Market-competitive employment conditions, fitting the seniority and responsibility of the position.
