HBO Internship: Research into a CAN bus interface module for bodybuilders

Via the CAN network, various signals are available that allow for the realization of complex controls and protections for bodybuilders. However, smaller bodybuilders often lack the specific knowledge to process these CAN signals directly. This internship assignment investigates the feasibility of an interface module that easily converts CAN signals into usable 24V inputs and outputs.

The internship assignment includes the following aspects:

• Exploring the various truck applications and the corresponding required signals.
• Comparing different truck brands in terms of bodybuilder signals.
• Inventorying the most important market requirements regarding signal conversion.
• Mapping available, universally suitable modules on the market.
• Developing and building a proof-of-concept (demonstration model).
• Drafting an implementation plan with a focus on:
  • Test procedures for the reliability of the module.
  • Programmability of the module by or for the bodybuilder.
  • Integration of the module into production using DAF processes.
