Make processes smarter and turn data into concrete improvements

Are you an HBO or WO student of Business Administration or Engineering Management looking for an internship or thesis project in which you don't just conduct research, but can actually improve something?

Within our team lie various concrete business administration challenges. Think of smarter process design, making information more accessible, or professionalizing reports and dashboards. In addition, we are looking at the possibilities of AI: where can AI support activities, make information more accessible, or make processes smarter and more efficient? Together, we will see which challenge best aligns with your interests, education, and learning goals.

Within Bosch Energy & Building Solutions, we work on integrated Safety & Security solutions such as evacuation systems, fire protection, and high-end intercom for environments where reliability is vital. What you organize and administer in the warehouse partly determines the success of our projects throughout the Netherlands.

What you'll do

You will be given the space to develop one of the topics below, or to connect different topics together.

How can we better align functions, activities, and processes? You will map out the current situation, investigate where bottlenecks or ambiguities lie, and come up with improvement proposals. In doing so, you will look at, for example:

Good information is essential for performing activities. But how do you ensure that employees quickly find the right and current information?

Another possible challenge is improving our information provision. Currently, work is being done with various individual Excel reports. The challenge is to move from a single central data source to unambiguous reports and dashboards.

A dashboard alone, of course, improves nothing. Therefore, the assignment can go one step further: how do we translate the available information into a structural improvement cycle?

  • You are following an HBO or WO degree in Business Administration, Engineering Management, or a similar program;

1. Optimizing processes and activities

  • Roles and responsibilities;
  • Work processes and handover moments;
  • Alignment between functions and activities;
  • Associated procedures;
  • Opportunities to organize processes more simply or efficiently.

2. Making information more accessible and up-to-date

Within this assignment, you can investigate how we can:

  • Better structure relevant work information;
  • Make information easier to find and access;
  • Assign clear ownership;
  • Make agreements regarding management and updating.

This also touches upon a broader issue regarding knowledge management. In previous materials, for example, the risk has been identified that relevant knowledge may reside heavily with experienced employees.

3. From separate Excel reports to data-driven management

You can investigate:

  • which management information is actually needed;
  • which data should be used for this;
  • how information can be organized unambiguously;
  • how reports and dashboards can be designed;
  • how employees can use the outcomes for decision-making and improvement.

With this, the assignment aligns with the development towards more data-driven working. In previous materials, the movement from traditional activities to more data-driven working is also mentioned.

4. From data to continuous improvement with PDCA

You can, for example, design a Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) methodology through which, based on data:

  • improvement points are identified;
  • actions are determined;
  • results are monitored;
  • improvements are secured.

In this way, you connect data, processes, and continuous improvement in one assignment.
