Junior Backend Engineer

Tech stack: PHP, Laravel, TypeScript, GraphQL, MariaDB, Redis, RabbitMQ, Docker, Kubernetes, GitLab CI/CD, Sentry, Elastic

Full-time | 32 - 40h/week | Head office Groningen

*You are able to work at the office in Groningen during your entire onboarding period. After that, we have a remote working policy of a maximum of 2 days per week. More days are possible in consultation.

Work on the systems behind our platforms in more than 30 countries

At Gomibo, we develop almost everything ourselves - from payments and logistics to warehousing and our product catalog. Our backend plays a central role in this. As a Junior Backend Engineer (Software Engineer I), you will contribute to real projects from day one. You will write production code, solve bugs, and help make our systems faster, more stable, and smarter.

You will work independently on well-defined tasks, with support from experienced colleagues. We expect you to show initiative, program reliably, and ask smart questions when you get stuck on something.

• Frameworks & libraries: Laravel, ActiveRecord, GraphQL, Composer

• IDE: PhpStorm

• Methodology: Agile, daily standups, code reviews, open feedback culture

We work in small teams - usually 5-6 engineers, a product manager, and a designer. Each team has its own domain and a lot of autonomy.

You will work closely with frontend engineers, product managers, and sometimes a designer. Together, you will build systems that are vital to our daily operations.

Examples of tasks:

• Writing new functionality in PHP

• Improving the performance of database queries

• Solving bugs and ensuring error handling is robust

• Expanding logging so that errors are easier to detect

• Making existing code more readable and maintainable

• Reviewing colleagues' code and contributing to technical discussions

• Pair programming to master tools and concepts faster

• Working daily with tools such as GitLab, Docker, and Kubernetes

You have a completed bachelor's or master's degree in Computing Science, at HBO or WO level. Additionally, you have experience writing backend code, in a previous job, internship, or as a serious project. You don't need to know everything yet, but you know how to structure your work, how to ask good questions, and you are not afraid of a little complexity.

You have experience with OOP code running in production

• Understand SQL and can write queries yourself

• Are familiar with backend concepts such as caching, APIs, and error handling

• Can use Git and the command line

• Communicate clearly and collaborate easily in a team

• Value clean, understandable code
