The role

Imagine: performing medium- and high-complexity surgeries every day and having a place where your ideas matter. That is your reality as a surgical assistant! At the Antoni van Leeuwenhoek in Amsterdam, we work together for the treatment of cancer. How wonderful is it that you can apply your talents right here?

Next-level surgery: that is how you could describe our procedures. You assist in complex oncological procedures and help with the preparation. In doing so, you work for all our disciplines: general surgery, reconstructive surgery, head and neck surgery, gynecology, and urology. No surgery or patient is the same, so every day is a new challenge. You always think one step ahead and ensure that the operations run smoothly. Become curious? We understand! Feel free to come and shadow us for a day.

What you'll do

  • You pay attention to our patients and ensure they feel as comfortable as possible. Good patient care is our top priority.

  • You get plenty of room to think along about improvements in our work. Your colleagues are open to your ideas and value your input.

  • You work in a hyper-modern operating department, where we apply the latest techniques, such as 3D navigation surgery.

  • You are involved in the most advanced and complex treatment methods and contribute daily to scientific research through collaboration with researchers.

How you'll work

Good to know: you work day shifts from 07:30 to 17:00, intermediate shifts from 09:30 to 19:00, and evening shifts from 13:30 to 23:00, followed by an on-call shift until 07:30. Occasionally, you will have a 12-hour on-call shift on the weekend: from 07:30 to 19:30, or from 19:30 to 07:30. We maintain a response time of half an hour. Do you live further away? Then we offer you an overnight accommodation option.

Requirements

You love to be challenged! You like to go the extra mile and get energy from complex operations. Furthermore, you take responsibility for your own development, dare to give your opinion, and stand up for yourself. Additionally, you have:

  • A diploma as a surgical assistant.

  • The motivation to deepen your knowledge of our profession.

  • An open and enthusiastic attitude.

  • Excellent communication skills in Dutch.

What do we offer you?

The basis for your terms of employment is in accordance with the Cao Ziekenhuizen (Collective Labour Agreement for Hospitals). You will receive from us:

  • A contract for an indefinite period. Do you want to work part-time? Even then, you will receive a permanent contract and can indicate your preference for days off from the roster.
