The role

We are looking for a data analyst at FEC Investigations within the Innovation, Design and Change (ID&C) department. As a data analyst, you will search within large-scale, data-driven thematic investigations for criminal financial flows and unknown patterns. You will work together with a team of financial economic crime (FEC) experts to identify risks related to financial crime, and you will have visible societal impact. Curious about this fascinating role? Then read on.

What you'll do

As a data analyst within FEC Investigations, you investigate customer integrity risks such as money laundering and sanctions evasion. You work on a project basis on various themes, ranging from high-risk sectors to specific money laundering methods. Together with investigators and FEC experts, you determine which data and analyses are required. You analyze large datasets, translate this into valuable insights, and make proposals for additional analyses. You report the results clearly and visually to stakeholders, thereby identifying risks within the population of the investigation theme.

In addition to conducting investigations, our data analysts are always busy investigating ways to extract more information from the available data. We develop innovative analysis methods to detect financial crime and signal unusual behavior at an early stage. In doing so, we make use of advanced techniques in the field of data science, which we test in exploratory investigations. Additionally, we work with the FEC Intelligence team on data-driven methods to derive insights from internal and external intelligence signals, which can lead to new projects. This involves the use of NLP techniques, trend detection, and dashboarding, among other things. You also work intensively with other data teams to reach common definitions. In this process, you share your knowledge and use of the data and analysis methods from the FEC Investigations investigations.

Your work

Specifically, you are responsible for:

  • Processing raw big data into usable information and clear reports.
  • Ensuring the quality and correct interpretation of the processed data and acquiring the knowledge necessary for this.
  • Critically evaluating results and proposing additional analyses.
  • Investigating how to extract more information from available data and making proposals to further enrich this data.
  • Together with the investigator(s): ensuring the general quality and monitoring the timelines of your projects.
  • Sharing knowledge of (the interpretation of) new data sources and newly developed data analyses, both with colleagues within FEC Investigations and with other data teams.
  • Aligning the use of data sources and definitions with stakeholders within ABN AMRO.

Working Environment

In a rapidly changing world where laws and regulations are constantly evolving and criminals constantly devise new methods, ABN AMRO strives for a sustainable financial system within the Detecting Financial Crime (DFC) department. We are dedicated to detecting financial economic crime (FEC) and building an innovative and expertise-driven organization.

DFC consists of several units that work together in this regard. Within the ID&C unit lies FEC Investigations, a team that focuses primarily on identifying (new) FEC risks. FEC Investigations works intensively with FEC Intelligence and also provides support for in-depth (customer) investigations and data requests from other DFC teams. To mitigate the risks identified within the investigations of FEC Investigations, we work together with other units within DFC and in the rest of the organization.

FEC Investigations operates from Amersfoort and consists of 20 passionate professionals with diverse backgrounds. One half of the team consists of data analysts, the other half of investigators, experts in the field of financial economic crime.
