The role

Do you want to use data to help combat financial crime? As a Data Analyst at FEC Investigations within Innovation, Design & Change (ID&C), you will work on large-scale, data-driven thematic investigations. You will analyze financial flows, bring unknown patterns to light, and help identify risks of financial crime. In doing so, you will work closely with FEC experts and apply your analytical expertise toward an important societal goal. Does that sound interesting? Then read on.

What you'll do

Specifically, you are responsible for:

  • Analyzing large datasets and translating raw data into concrete insights and clear reports.
  • Investigating customer integrity risks, such as money laundering and sanctions evasion, within various themes and populations.
  • Discovering patterns and unusual behavior and critically assessing which additional analyses are required.
  • Developing and testing new analytical methods using techniques such as data science, NLP, trend detection, and dashboarding.
  • Analyzing internal and external intelligence signals and translating these into potential new investigation themes.
  • Monitoring the quality and correct interpretation of data, together with investigators and FEC experts.
  • Presenting investigation results and insights to stakeholders in a clear and visual manner.
  • Collaborating with other data teams on unambiguous definitions and the use of data sources, and actively sharing knowledge about data and analytical methods.

Working Environment

The world of financial crime is constantly changing. Laws and regulations evolve, and criminals find ever-new ways to abuse the financial system. Within Detecting Financial Crime (DFC), ABN AMRO therefore works on recognizing and managing risks of financial economic crime (FEC). In doing so, we combine expertise, data, and innovation.

FEC Investigations is part of Innovation, Design & Change (ID&C) within DFC. The team focuses on identifying and investigating new and existing FEC risks. We work closely with FEC Intelligence and other teams within DFC and provide support for in-depth customer investigations and data issues. The insights from our investigations help the organization to manage risks in a targeted manner.

Based in Amersfoort, you will work in a team of about 20 passionate professionals: Data Analysts and investigators with expertise in the field of financial economic crime. It is precisely that combination of data and FEC expertise that ensures we can investigate complex issues from different perspectives.
