The role
In short
As a Site Preparer, you are indispensable! From the design phase to execution, you ensure that everything is prepared and runs smoothly. As a site preparer, you play a very important role in the realization of our RWG Terminal project, with attention to KWS's sustainability ambitions.
What you'll do
This is what you will do
As a Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Site Preparer, you are the point of contact for the project manager and site manager, ensuring that everyone can work optimally. One day you are drawing up a schedule and maintaining project administration; the next day you are checking materials and handling procurement. Additionally, you independently write work plans, prepare estimates for extra and reduced work, and closely monitor deviations, risks, and changes within the project. You also maintain intensive contact with suppliers, subcontractors, and other project partners.
Furthermore, you hold an important role regarding safety, quality, and progress. You identify risks, think in solutions, and raise the alarm when situations demand it. Thanks to your preparation, our execution teams can work efficiently, safely, and according to schedule.
In your role, you work much independently and are able to make decisions regarding, among other things, the planning, working methods, and organization of the project. Together with the Site Manager and Project Manager, you take on calculation tasks where necessary and assist with cost price calculations and project optimizations. You are also able to sit at the table independently with clients and stakeholders.
You perform your duties partly from our office in Zwijndrecht and partly at one of the most leading infrastructural projects at this moment: the RWG Terminal on the Maasvlakte. Here, you will work on the further development of one of the most modern container terminals in Europe.
As one of the largest road builders in the Netherlands, we believe that regional involvement leads to better projects and satisfied clients. Our working area is primarily located in Zuid-Holland. The average project size is around €2 million, but in addition, we also work on medium and large infrastructural projects between €5 and €15 million, often executed under UAV-GC contracts.
The projects are very diverse. From a local reconstruction of a residential area to complex infrastructure projects in the Rotterdam port area. Well-known projects we have worked on include the CER track on the Maasvlakte, the Roseknoop in Rotterdam, the IJsselmondseknoop, the RWG Terminal, the Lange Gracht in Leiden, the Veenpoldersweg in Stompwijk, and asphalt maintenance for Waterschap Hollandse Delta and the Port of Rotterdam.
Because of this, as an Infrastructure Site Preparer, you get the chance to work on projects that make Zuid-Holland safer, more sustainable, and more accessible.

About the company & team
This is what your department looks like
A project team consists of project managers, site managers, and site preparers, ranging from junior to senior level. With your experience, you help the team develop further and actively contribute to knowledge sharing and collaboration.
Within KWS, we work according to the LEAN methodology and are continuously working on improving, working more efficiently, and increasing the quality of our projects. We are ambitious and work hard, but there is certainly room for relaxation and humor. For example, we have lunch together in the canteen or take a walk during the break.
KWS Rotterdam-Zwijndrecht is characterized by an informal working atmosphere, short lines, and a flat organizational structure. The door is always open, colleagues are happy to help each other, and collaboration is central. Your manager is not a boss, but a coach who stimulates your personal development.
Will you show where your ambitions lie? Then you will receive all the space within KWS and VolkerWessels to further develop yourself towards, for example, Senior Site Preparer, Project Manager, Tender Manager, or another next step within civil engineering and infrastructure. Entrepreneurship is highly valued by us and is actively encouraged.
About KWS
KWS is part of VolkerWessels and is the specialist in the field of infrastructure. From roads and public spaces to everything located above, below, and on the water.
With our branches, subsidiaries, and holdings, we possess a wide range of disciplines, always close to our customers. From consultancy to asphalt production and from earthmoving, sewerage, and hydraulic engineering to small-scale works for municipalities and individuals. As a market leader in road construction and asphalt production, we also realize large-scale, multidisciplinary projects with which we establish complete infrastructure. Every day, more than 2,000 driven colleagues commit themselves to the accessibility and livability of the Netherlands.
About KWS Rotterdam-Zwijndrecht
Big in the region, connected to each other. KWS Infra Rotterdam-Zwijndrecht counts over 200 colleagues. A close-knit team in which people know each other, strengthen each other, and want to move forward together. Our working area is the province of South Holland: the region where many of our colleagues live, where we know our customers well, and where we are visible every day.
That regional connection is an important strength. We know what is happening, we move with a changing environment, and we constantly look for ways to do our work smarter, more sustainably, and better. With a turnover of approximately 160 million euros per year, clear ambitions in the field of sustainability, and a wide range of projects, we are a leading infra partner in the region.
From the city to the port and from large infrastructure developments to works closer to home. In doing so, we are proud of the projects we realize together. For example, we work on the Leidse Ring Noord, we provide all the maintenance in the Hoeksche Waard and IJsselmonde, and with Stadse Werken, we make the city center of Rotterdam a little more beautiful.
But ultimately, it is not just about the projects. It is the people who make them possible together. By sharing knowledge, helping each other, and taking a step forward every day, we are building not only the infrastructure of South Holland, but also a strong branch in which we make a difference together.
