The role

At TenneT, we work on an energy supply that keeps the Netherlands moving. As a Java Developer, you will make a direct impact on the future of our electricity grid. You will play a key role in realizing innovative and sustainable energy solutions. Together with your colleagues, you will work on designing, testing, implementing, and maintaining solutions, processes, and/or tools for our Operate. As a result, you will work closely on solutions for our colleagues in the control room, so that we can continue to provide the Netherlands with reliable energy.

What you'll do

You will be working in a Scrum team that has been running stably for years. The team consists of 7 colleagues. Testing is a shared responsibility within this team. Every Tuesday, we have a fixed team day and work together at the office. The team works on the further development and improvement of a number of applications within a large and complex application landscape. In this, we use Java, Quarkus, REST APIs, Kafka, JPA/Hibernate.

Within the team, you will be given an independent role in which you receive the freedom, but also the responsibility, to arrange matters together with the team. Due to the crucial role of the applications, you as a developer may question everything and challenge all stakeholders (such as developers, architects, and business). Creativity and initiative for new ideas are therefore certainly appreciated.

You are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable software solutions. You work on both the backend (Java, REST APIs) and the frontend (Angular), playing a key role in realizing end-to-end functionality. You are part of a multidisciplinary Scrum team, a team where everyone actively contributes to development, testing, and operations activities. Additionally, you are responsible for, among other things:

  • Acting as a technical expert and trusted advisor within your own field of expertise and providing technical advice to internal stakeholders, such as architects, developers, testers, and product owners.
  • Designing, developing, and implementing scalable backend services, frontend components, RESTful APIs, and integrations within an event-driven and cloud-native architecture.
  • Being responsible for the technical quality of software development and the correct application of development standards and best practices, using technologies such as Java, Quarkus, Angular, JPA/Hibernate, and Kubernetes. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams and contributing to knowledge sharing, coaching, and guidance in the areas of software development, testing, CI/CD, and agile working.
  • Developing and maintaining automated test solutions and contributing to the quality and reliability of applications through the application of tools and techniques such as JUnit, Mockito, Playwright, Cucumber, Jenkins, Git, and SonarQube.
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant standards, security guidelines, and quality norms within the development process, so that secure, reliable, and future-proof solutions are realized.
  • Analyzing and translating functional requirements and technical issues from business, management, and projects into suitable technical solutions.
  • Supporting applications in production by providing level 2 support, analyzing incidents, and identifying structural improvements.
  • Continuously evaluating and improving development processes, architecture, and technical solutions to increase efficiency, quality, and maintainability.
  • Optimizing work processes. We always strive to work as well as possible and to improve ourselves.
  • Managing complexity. It is sometimes quite a puzzle.
  • Quality of decisions. You and your colleagues take turns in the role of "sergeant of the week." During that week, you are the first point of contact for questions from stakeholders and the business, and you manage, among other things, the shared team inbox.

Requirements

At TenneT, we look for professionals who contribute to an effective and future-proof project organization. We expect you to have the right experience and skills to make a valuable contribution to our team and our mission. Therefore, we ask of you:
